I seldom take sides with cops - however as citizens I think we all know what to do when we are stopped for a traffic violation. Why not take a minor warning, show ID and get it over with. Mouthy jerk Pastor got what he deserved in this case!

A police officer doesn't need a legal reason to come and ask you questions, and you don't have a legal requirement to answer them.. But he mostly just wanted to check ID for any warrants.


I know what the LEO was trying to do. It was unnecessary and put him in danger.

If you are a passenger and the driver is stopped, you can leave the vehicle and start walking. You are not part of the stop as you have committed no crime. That isn't speculation on my part that's from my experience as working as an LEO.


Asking someone to see ID is not provocation. It's extremely routine for them.


Asking some one for ID unnecessarily could very well escalate the situation. It's crap like this that gets officers shot.
