Chinese dissident Liu wins Nobel Peace Prize

news.yahoo.com

BEIJING – China has long wanted a Nobel prize. Now that it has one, its leaders are furious. The Nobel committee awarded its peace prize to imprisoned democracy campaigner Liu Xiaobo on Friday, lending encouragement to China's dissident community and sending a rebuke to the authoritarian government, which sharply condemned the award.

Kudos to the Nobel committee for not bowing to Chicom government pressure to not give the award. It is unlikely as the story reports that he even knows of the award as he is in some gulag, but the word began to spread fast before the censors began blocking IM's and the like containing the news.

The committee also issued a challange to the Chicom govenrment by stating "China cannot only demand to have political and economic power, without being exposed to the same kind of discussions as other superpowers have been,""

Bush got the award too, GOSH..

That truly showed the credibility of these awards. These awards are politically motivated.

Do not scrutinize the integrity of the award, otherwise you are belittling the world changing deeds that past winners have performed like MLK Jr. and Ghandi.

Instead scrutinize the integrity of the judges that choose these winners for, like you say, political means.

Glad to see more deserving people got the Prize this year.

No replay of last year.

Wouldn't it be ironic if one of these peace prizes actually started a war?

Kind of almost looks like it could
