A father with a history of psychological problems stabbed and seriously wounded his 3-year-old son with a kitchen knife early yesterday morning in
Brooklyn, police said.
The boy's mother was also injured when she tried to stop her husband from plunging an eight-inch kitchen knife into Mitchell Ossip's chest and
stomach, according to police.
The child, Mitchell Ossip, was in critical condition at Coney Island Hospital after surgery, said Charlotte Wein, the administrator on duty. She said
the city Emergency Children's Services had been called to investigate the stabbing.
The stabbing occured in the family's 19th-floor apartment at 2820 Ocean Pkwy. in Brooklyn, police said.
A woman who lived in the apartment under the Ossips said she that heard screaming shortly after 3 a.m.
The woman, who asked not to be identified, said that she heard a woman screaming "Stop it, stop it, stop it." Neighbors called 911 and police
officers and ambulances responded.
Harris Ossip, 41, the father, was jailed by police on charges of assault and criminal possession of a deadly weapon.
Police said that they did not know why Ossip stabbed his son, but that he had been treated for psychological problems. They would not elaborate.
The mother, Bonnie Ossip, also 41, suffered minor cuts to her hands and fingers. She was treated and released at Coney Island Hospital. She could not
be reached for comment yesterday.
Adele Horowitz, who lives on the ninth floor of the apartment building, said another neighbor told her the father had just been in a VA hospital.
"From what I understand, he had a nervous breakdown," Horowitz said.
She said he was "kicking and screaming" and saying "Jesus made him do it," when police arrested him. "The whole building is in a state of
shock," she said. "We're all one big happy family. He was a cute little boy. "
Now that you have read that, if you to know WHY "Jesus made him do it," I will be more than happy to send you the pdf
