I think this is a question we have all pondered on at some point in our life, i have read into NDE and some of the evidence is compelling IMO, i would like to know your takes on the whole topic/issue, your theorys or other evidence you have come across to support or debunk, please share

Are you a believer? or not? please explain...

'Is there life after death?', an incongrous statement.
That makes no sense.

The question should be, I suppose, 'is there death?'
My answer is, look around you, what do you see?'

Regards Midicon.

Yes, I believe in life after death. Here's why:

I don't think that we simply cease to exist after we die physically, I believe that all human beings have a soul/spirit; I've felt strong surges of emotion at times in my life and it's been positive, literally feeling like I'm super human and as far as I'm concerned that feeling is my soul.

People could argue that I only believe in life after physical death because I can't face the reality that death is inevitable and once you die physically that's the end.

Although I'll admit that I don't like the thought of dying, I do honestly think there is more to life than that; I can't accept that we are born, live life, get old, die and then that's it.

There's too many things about this world that don't make sense, I learn something new and amazing every single day!

So yes, in my opinion, there is a place we go to after our life here on Earth has ended. I honestly don't know where that place is, but I'll look forward to finding out...

There is something that exists after the body dies, IMO. Nothing like the ego-driven consciousness that we are aware of during our lives, but awareness none the less. I have this opinion due to experiences, not near death, that had great effects on my life.

Got no pictures though, so it won't hold up here on ATS. But that is the way it should be.

S&F!

That's a little pedantic

I think the OP means life after physical death, hence I've made the distinction in my post above, just for you

Thank you for thinking of me, and making that distinction.
It wasn’t really necessary though, as I did understand what the OP meant.
It may have been pedantic but the statement ‘life after death’, is incongruous.
I see you have beliefs about it too good for you!
It is too easy to have beliefs.

Let’s see, evidence for eternal life, soul etc, zilch.

Look around you what do you see?

Death.

To be honest and fair, making that distinction is not only not pedantic but lies at the heart of the question.

The relative opposite of 'death' is 'birth' not Life ... as such the correct and accurate way to frame that question is "Is there birth after death?"

"Life" is in fact one of the few words and concepts in the human mind for which there is no opposite, that in itself is a rather significant pointer as to the answer to the OP's question. Life, by all accounts, is unrelated to the physical birth/death cycle.

Pedantic? Perhaps .... but the universe is in the details.

Linguistical semantics, I love it!

I understand what your saying but I was just pointing out what the OP ment, but you have a point.

However, I'd say the opposite of life is no life, you know yin/yang and all that.

The opposite of hot is not hot, the degree of that lack of heat is defined by us with the term cold.

"Life, by all accounts, is unrelated to the physical birth/death cycle"
By whose accounts?"

Life is completely reliant on the birth and death cycle.

I believe in life after death
I believe all beings have souls
The soul is that which uses the body as a tool to interact with the substance, matter, environment it is born into/amongst
Many people believe they are mereley the body they inhabit and live accordingly - pampering to physical wants and vanities.

".........To die is different from what any one supposed, and luckier."
Walt Whitman

To One Shortly To Die

From all the rest I single out you, having a message for you,
You are to die-let others tell you what they please, I cannot prevaricate,
I am exact and merciless, but I love you-there is no escape for you.

Softly I lay my right hand upon you, you just feel it,
I do not argue, I bend my head close and half envelop it,
I sit quietly by, I remain faithful,
I am more than nurse, more than parent or neighbor,
I absolve you from all except yourself spiritual bodily,

that is eternal, you yourself will surely escape,
The corpse you will leave will be but excrementitous.

The sun burst through in unlooked for directions,
Strong thoughts fill you and confidence, you smile,
You forget you are sick, as I forget you are sick,
You do not see the medicines, you do not mind the weeping friends,
I am with you,
I exclude others from you, there is nothing to be commiserated,
I do not commiserate, I congratulate you.

Walt Whitman

There is good research on this subject all over the internet, and so on.. There are documentaries on this subject that people talk about being alive while being dead and seeing situations they have no clue about..

This documentary I uploaded a while ago is a good one.. It shows a blind person who was able to see while having an NDE..

(click to open player in new window)

There is a few sites to look at also...
www.near-death.com...
This is a good one..

You should look up Edgar Cayce also, he gives alot into how NDE's are and what happens after we die.. Only reason I mention him is because he has a good track record of being a (cant remember how to spell profit the right way so I will add..) Future seer..

I believe when we die we come back to places like this to learn things we are supposed to, although I am lost in what I am suppost to do but meh it will hit me at some point.. if not i suppose I will be returning again to learn my lesson that i was supposed to learn here again..

There is another guy who did hypnosis on people to see what life was like after death and before death but i cant remember his name.. He wrote 2 books...
::EDIT::
This is the guy here... and his books.. You can download them off the net if you want..
Journey & Destiny of Souls - by Michael Newton
::END EDIT::

Anyway if you research this subject on the internet you can learn alot.. start with the term near death experience, it will take you very far..

Kinglizard one of ATS's own mods has his NDE in his sig, there is another member that also talks about his NDE also on here but again cant remember his name off hand..

Walt Whitman also wrote, 'I sing the body electric'!

I see you too have many beliefs, based on nothing really.
Beware of beliefs, they will wear you down eventually.
They will become truths for you.
Then where will you be?

Many people have written many things
I only believe what I personally know to be true
Your advice should be heeded by yourself
Your remarks need explaining as they are vague to say the least

I'm trying to break up the lines, i was hoping for more theorys, not what we already know on the cycle of life & death, the conection & what if anything is going on outside, something connected to all things

Life as we know it being the place where the body/host for the mind exists,

The soul being an entity/energy that uses the body/host in a much much longer cycle of life & consciousness

Einstein said that energy cant be created or destroyed, it simply moves from one form to another,

I used to use that argument until someone, quite correctly, pointed out that our energy from a rotting corpse will simply be transferred into the soil and ground.

Why is it called a 'near death experience?'
Is it because no one really died?

And please not 'Edgar Cayce'!

Studying NDE's is useful, but not for the purpose of establishing the 'soul'.

I must ask.
With you exhorting others to drop their beliefs,

Where are you... without them?

OK then here goes -
First a theory is just what it says it is A Theory -
Most of our knowledge is based on theory and often backed up by information which is interpreted to back up that theory such as Darwinism and Quantum Physics.
A theory is often accepted as fact or truth but this does not mean it is true
We are all going to get our own proof of Life after Death wether we like it or not. Each persons experience of death will be unique to them
Proof is an iner knowing which only the person experiencing it can truly know.
Now all I can do is offer my own proof (Inner Knowing)
I do not ask any to accept what I say but say it I will.
We existed before we were born onto the Earth as we will exist when we depart and return home - the place we came from - of course there is much much more to all of this but so as to not overload others with my personal belief (My proof) I will leave it at that point unless any want futher eleboration
Now all I can do is offer my own proof (Inner Knowing)
