looks like we have another mawson webcam fiasco in the making...
could you post the actual image you're referring to? on the webcam right now there is only darkness. are you referring to the 9:44 and 9:54 pictures?
if so, it appears to be an effect caused by the wind.
9:44
9:54
and the windiest day...

refreshed the webcam after posting last... the currect image:
i'm going to say that this is caused, in some way, by the wind.

Yes, I think cmdrkeenkid is right. The windiest image looks very similar to current images.
I think that the wind blows up snow and small ice particles. These reflect and refract the lights from the base and cause a blurry image. If you look
at a normal picture, you'll see that the lights from the base are in the same place as the lights in the blurry pictures:

go to your "MemberCenter (u2u)" on the black tabs with white writing. it's all the way on the right.
go to "ATS Upload" under "ATS Special Features"
click "Browse" to find the file and select it
click "Upload"
once a file is uploaded the url of the file will appear at the top. copy that and paste it into the image (looks like an art eisel) thing when you
reply to a thread.
EDIT: the file also has to be less than 100k. also there is the "tutorial" between "faq" and "recent posts."

So... I was snagging a load of images from the Aussie server, and look what I found going on at Davis!! What are they doing? shooting aliens?!?
I've compiled a movie. (only 7.4 meg this time, and includes the other bright object pointed out in this thread.)
the Quicktime is here..
Strange goings on at Davis Station

Where is that "light beam" originating from? Is that the ground or is it originating from another unknown in the sky?
Great find Muppet.

I dunno... It's seriously wierd. the only possible explanation I can think of is that the guys down there are playing tricks on us and retouching the
images, but it seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to on the off chance somebody notices it!!

The sun through heavy weather perhaps? It isn't the moon as the moon is not full at the moment.

Let us not forget that the summer solstice just passed... This means that in Antartica it is night 24/7 for a few days around this time. The sun may
just about be visible over the horizon, however, as demonstrated in the webcam

that's what i thought too at first. then i reved up the starry night software and the sun isn't even out at those times. it's just below the
horizon actually. that is unless i set the location for the davis station wrong. can someone get me the coordinates?

Dont think it was the sun ,the frames went from hazy light to quite dark as it went from right to left, with it still being quite high up

I don't think it's the Sun as the scene gets darker as the thing gets higher. I'd have thought it was the moon, but then again if the moon isn't
full right now..??
Just to check, does the video work ok on PC's this time?
