While I'm on board with the "format changing" theory...

you have 8775309, was it that, or 8675309?

Only reason I point that out is if it was a typo on your part, it's nothing, if it's what they said, then it is a clue, even if it's just a clue to the mundane reason behind the countdown.

Yea, I'm aware of that, that's why it caught my attention...I was thinking maybe they were going to do some sort of contest in conjunction with it the formatting or whatever.

Oh well...I;m no where near there, guess it doesn't matter to much to me.

For some reason this reminds me of the count down on Independence day and the radio messages on the movie Red Dawn.

I don't rember the countdown in independence day saying anything about "yellow snow" or Kenny Rogers though, lol.

And I KNOW it never quoted a Huey Lewis song!

When the station 93X in minneapolis, mn changed to alternative music, it played the R.E.M. song "It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine" back-to-back-to-back for 72 hours straight!

Not really, that was 10 years ago.... the technology has just really progressed.

They should be happy that they are still in business in these of internet radio.

Well the radio station is owned by Triad broadcasting.

I am wondering what the new format will be.

They just got a new market manager for this region including this particular station as of September 16, 2010. Also on same day, Triad named a new CFO.

Could be shake-ups in the organization, but if it is part of a viral campaign, why isn't the website updated, and why doesn't the phone have a pre-recorded announcement?

I vote with station format change, but that sure was creepy. 7 second intervals with a phrase after 5 countdown repeats. Phrases I heard:

"ET phone home"
"Wanna see my hard drive?"
"There is no change"
"Freebird"
"We are not so smart are we Maxwell?"

And my favorite:
"It's not the pants that make your butt look big, it's your butt."

I can't get the live feed, so I don't know where the countdown is, but from the posts here, I estimate about 6 a.m. on Friday morning Eastern Standard Time. Does that sound right to you?
