I've posted this in the Gray Area, mods feel free to move it, I'd also ask if (as unlikely as that may be) this thread makes front page, to please keep it off farcebook.

Ok, so this is a question about perception and I'd really appreciate some input from other members, to see if they're seeing what I am seeing - I won't reveal what I see just yet because I don't want to colour anyone's viewpoints on this.

The picture below is from a UK tabloid called The Sun, for our non-UK members, it's in the top 3 best selling daily newspapers in the country, so it has a massive readership. The daily readership of this paper is about 7,682,000.

Source.

I know what I see, or think I see - what about you?

Are you referring to all the graphic pornographic and coverage of celebrities? We have that on all of our papers here in the U.S.

I have absolutely NO idea what you are seeing, or who the screen grab is of. Care to enlighten an American who long ago stopped paying his cable bill (Realized I was only watching reruns of crap that I own on DVD).

Sort of - I agree with what you're thinking, but it's actually not at the forefront of my thoughts on this.

Maybe I'm being too vague... that's supposed to be one of the most read NEWSpapers in the UK.

The lady on the front of it is taking part in a televised "talent" competition.

I messed the cropping a little, but in the bottom right of the picture there's also a promotion for a Twilight-inspired comic strip that runs in the back pages of this newspaper.

It appears to me to be a tabloid.

If so then it's exactly what I'd expect from a tabloid. There are sources of hard news to be found, just not in the supermarket check out lanes!

Eh, the mainstream media is a tool used to distract us anyway so all this shows is it's working. And, on a side note, I think there is something to Gamu sounding slightly like Nibiru. Maybe she is it's Herald like the SIlver Surfer.

The Sun? A NEWS paper? You've gotta be kidding me. Only people who wouldn't be jerked awake if the leaders of the world came and started physically slapping them around think that the Sun is a genuine NEWS paper. It's a tabloid which may sometimes reflect important news.

Sorry bud, but telling me that the Sun is a NEWSpaper, is like telling me that the Pravda is a scientific journal.

So what was the important part that you didn't crop well? What's all the buzz about nothing?

I think i understand, your pointing out that what is labeled as a newspaper is in fact anything but a newspaper and that it is contributing to the mis direction of the masses by reporting on drivel in the articles that are actually in there, other than that its one big paper commercial for advertisers?

Yes, completely correct.

So if we think back to the front page of ATS being draped in Farcebook logos - what was that then.

ATS is user driven content os it's as relevant as the users themselves are I suppose. So in some ways yes it's similar to the Sun at times depending on what thread you click.

Facebook logos and stuff ... I dunno it's just what it is - a way of getting the site out there. There are science communities that have groups on facebook and stuff.

I dunno. This seems confusing to me. Why not just state whatever exactly your point is?

ATS doesn't and never has claimed to be a news source, it's a social group where people can discuss things that is now linked up to another social group "facebook" where other people can discuss other things

AboveTopSecret.com is the Internet's largest and most popular discussion board community dedicated to the intelligent exchange of ideas and debate on a wide range of "alternative topics" such as conspiracies, UFO's, paranormal, secret societies, political scandals, new world order, terrorism, and dozens of related topics with a diverse mix of users from all over the world.
