OP, (I'm ignoring the serious and real issues that can arise from masturbation to an inanimate object)
I

Porn was most dangerous in it's printed form. Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler.
People would get left handed paper cuts.

I thought you were going to ignore these issues.

Or were you referring to something else? Statues, dirt clods, sun ripened canteloupe?

My jovial comment is not worthy of a reply, as that is NOT a SERIOUS or REAL problem.
I think the real danger is those statues you mentioned..Here is why:

Some tool walks by a hot nude statue, gets all worked up, and can't just stand there masturbating in the park, decides to accost a jogger in the bush. You get a case of statue caused rape.

(For this who can't understand my sense of humor, please understand, I have still not addressed the real problems with porn) I just find a humorous irony in the post title. Is porn dangerous? = Are bullets dangerous?

Obviously rocks are the real danger as stones can be thrown without a gun.

Get it?

I was hoping it was sarcasm...as Im not of very high IQ and sometimes need things explained to me by the numbers ...as you have done and Im greatful..BTW , probably some of the most 'jovial' stuff Ive read on here.

Cheers

rape is a crime of power, not sex. rape has existed long before internet porn. you view porn as unhealthy and are trying to connect it to rape because it doesn't fit into your morality. if you took away all the porn there would still be rape just like there always has been throughout human history. if you closed all the mcdonald's there would still be fat people.

I believe that porn, like anything else that is a personal matter, should be up to each individual to decide, however, I feel like more awareness about the ramifications of porn use, should be known. Supporting such industries seems counterproductive to the soul's growth. Too many women have been exploited, regardless of if they chose it or not, it feels wrong to me. Some people may want to gravitate more towards negativity, for these individuals, I see no problem with supporting things of this nature, But to the rest of the worlds population, it seems wrong, maybe the video your watching isn't hurting the people in it, but maybe by making the producer or "stars" in it some money, it will snowball out, and some things of a darker nature will be made possible, and so on.. it comes down to personal responsibility to the Earth as I see it. How do you want this world to be? choose wisely that which you support.
I'm not trying to condemn those who watch porn, I simply feel it's a mistake, unless you want to live your life controlling others, and trying to become an elitist. Just my 2 cents anyways, happy hunting folks.

Now you're all just running around in circles, saying the same old thing.
As creative as all of it is, do you actually believe what you're saying?

I don't expect everyone to be a rocket scientist or anything, but before I started this thread...I sort of imagined it turning out..differently,
in my mind.

For you I'll say it again...you could just read back a little, but I'll say it anyway...now, bare with me...this is a lot of work for me after doing this so many times....so it's going to be real short:

Porn is not about sex.
I agree that rape is not about sex either.

Rape is not about sex? That makes no sense whatsoever. Sure there is power involved but the rapist isn't trying to force the victim into a weight lifting challenge, the perp is trying to achieve an orgasm because it triggers a high... Rape seems like the most illogical way to prove someones power in this society with the deserved negative stigmas and penalties attached to such a vile act.

Porn is what it is. Quite frankly the only people in relationships that struggle in the bedroom it seems are those that are not open with one another enough to admit that they masturbate (or feel a strong urge to do so). Also, it appears those against porn have a set course of action as to how sex must play out. For example some couples or groups like rough sex with no foreplay. They love there partners idea of a healthy sexual relationship and willingness to explore.

The evidence is nada with the rape correlation so that leads me to beleieve its a cover for the real reason to bash porn... some people cant admit there are MANY different kinds of loving sexual intercourse. Besides isnt rape porno illegal or so taboo that there isnt really any out there (please no links ;-)?

How humanity has managed its sexual affairs over the centuries has varied considerably from society to society and most interestingly within individual societies.

In the late 1600s, during the times of Samuel Pepys, he of the "Pepys Diary" fame, there was a tremendous amount of casual fornicating going on. Women were being groped everywhere and scullery and chambermaids were often "ruined" and "reruined". The Victorian period, again in England, when the anonymously published My Secret Life by "Walter" appeared was also a time of widespread, though often closeted sexual licence.

Then as now, all manner of vice was available to the one who could pay for it.

The further back you go in history, one imagines that you would find that people lived more and more like animals, copulating and murdering whom they pleased until they themselves were copulated and murdered. '
'

Now we live in the era of "virtual experiences" where war and rapine and murder are our daily entertainment fair on TV and in the theatres. Similarly with the availability of high quality porn of all sorts, there is no further need to stalk the cobblestone laneways of the red light district or ruin and reruin the cleaning lady.

Yes, there are still troubling cases of people who can't control themselves, but these sort of instances of self-ruination occur in all walks of life and in all endeavours of life.

I really don't see porn, with the exception of so called "kiddy" porn, as a special threat to society.

you know what buddy...
Stop telling people what to do, worry about your own life.
Stop saying you don't judge and then starting most of your passive aggressive posts with
"uhhh....."

this whole thread was just designed to perpetrate your point of view, find people who shared it to boost your ego/confidence & make you seem more correct. -my 2 cent

you were never interested in considering other points of view or learning anything you and these threads never go anywhere but in circles. my 2 cent.

First off, good post. It's better than the others in some ways.

"Kiddy porn" is driven by the same unhealthy mind that drives any other porn addict.
Of course, when dealing with children, it's MUCH easier to become disgusted with someone, and NO ONE can defend their "addiction" when it goes that far.

But a pervert is a pervert.

Is porn dangerous? Like everything else, there are several factors to consider when answering that question. Anything in excess is bad for you...people need to use moderation in all areas of daily life. So I would have to say that porn is dangerous when it gets to the point that the user is sitting at home all day and all night...porn, porn, and nothing but porn will have adverse psycological effects, and probably some pretty adverse physical effects attatched to itself. On the flip side, if we look at something "healthy", such as exercise, you still need that moderation. Doing nothing but run and lift weights all day long would probably kill you faster than chain-smoking.

When used properly, however, porn is actually healthy (in my opinion). Let's face it, before porn came along people were still wacking away in the privacy of their own bathrooms...just in those days you had to use imagination, rather than the presented visuals. Sexual release = release of stress, tension, rage...etc, etc, etc. Less stress and anger = happy and healthy. If you have someone nearby who can aid you in that release, then I would say only a loon would pick porn over the real deal...but if nobody's around to do the job, then it's time for the ultimate shame. With maturity comes less of a need to use porn to rid yourself of stress...I personally enjoy playing my guitars or reading a book (though I will not lie and say I never view pornography).

So, in closing...yes, porn is dangerous. However, I think it only poses a danger to the individual viewing the pornography, rather than those in said person's community. And, even then, it is only dangerous in the same way that any addiction is dangerous. If not used sparringly and cautiously, it will slowly take over your life, and take priority over everything else.

While obviously, to rape someone you have some form of intercourse but all he is trying to say that there are other things that come into rape apart from it being just rape.
There are other things, such as power and control that are massive factors that come into the mindset of someone with the intentions to rape.
So you could say, that someone who rapes his gf/wife could be raping her not just for the satisfaction but the control as well. that is what he is trying to say.

Secondly, yes people can have healthy relationships involving porn. But the thread is "is porn bad for you" NOT "porn IS bad for you" its exploring the possibilities.
If someone has a sick mind watches some form of taboo porn and it kindles these fantasies then acts them out in real life, then yes porn can be dangerous.
If a human being is put into an environment that tests their intentions many things can unfold, if a man somehow stumbles across rape porn and ends up liking it to the slightess degree, it could cause him to act out his fantasies.
So yes porn CAN be bad for you, depending on your motives, mindset and personality.

Well, it's true that I'm passive aggressive..
I'm uhhhing out of tiredness! I come on here when I'm tired...
I uhh when I'm tired as well.
Gosh, it's not like uhhing is a porn addiction...Don't you ever uhhh?
Uhhing is nice.

You put that together nicely, but it's aimed at the wrong guy.
I said that this isn't aimed at a mature adult, but at those it can affect, and those who are regular addicts, those who aren't right.

It's not that I don't want opinions, it's just that I picked too tender of a subject for myself.
To be honest, I assumed from the start that it would simply put the idea into someone's head and in turn, it would improve something, somewhere in the world.
My ego has nothing to do with it though...

If I were defending my perverse thinking, then it could be my ego doing it.

In stead, I pose a defense for the kids, for the people who have healthy minds.

Truth be, you don't even have to do this..you don't have to get mad at me. Don't do that to yourself.
It is a waste of your time because I'm not the enemy.

I don't believe man is born evil or corrupt, but what he surrounds himself with throughout his life is what shapes his character.

Where it is that I have sounded passive aggressive came from where someone said something like "Porn is educational" and even some that implied it would be good for children.

You don't need to explain yourself to me, but when you try to explain myself to me, well, I feel I should explain myself to you.

Understand that I am NOT attacking you if you aren't a pervert and haven't been affected[noticeably] by porn.
So take it easy...just look at what I'm saying as being put as gentle and sweet as it can be.

The mind can be poisoned by a number of things that you feed it -
anger is one of them.

Your outlook on the subject is well balanced and covers both sides of the topic,
along with showing a lot of your understanding on the discussion at hand.

Your post is much appreciated.

I find it hard to believe someone would rape for control in very many cases. The control just goes hand in hand with the act of physically violating someone against their will.

As for the second point, I would be in favor for arguing that porn benefits our society. There are maybe three things folks would object to in porn that laws also disagree with: beastiality, pedophilia, and rape. If a would be criminal acts any of these at home in the form of simulation it keeps them from committing the real crime. Furthermore they have the chance to see the simulated act and perhaps begin to realize why this act should not be committed in reality.
