I would imagine it would take a LOT of disinformation people to keep their eyes on people. I wonder how many innocent people will be targetted. I mean, how do they really know who is a problem and who is just all talk?

Foreword
U.S. information operations (IO) in Iraq have run up against a formidable cyber-savvy foe in the fight to influence and control cyberspace. The insurgent cyberforce has fought well against the highly-financed and organized U.S. IO community. Major James Kinniburgh and Dr. Dorothy Denning offer another avenue in this Joint Special Operations University report for IO specialists to bring to the fight, namely the blogosphere.

A formidable cyber-savvy foe in Iraq? Or citizens of the US spreading information to other citizens??

The only reason,..government people would be on conspiracy sites would be to keep track of the homegrown terrorists that breed on these kind of sites. I have no doubt in my mind that they are not here to make sure you don't know the truth or to make sure you even get tot he truth...because all that this site is...is for people to announce their paranoid delusions or to complain about whatever party is in office...nothing more. I have been on this stie for a few years and have seen nothing of worth when it comes to conpiracy theories.

I do enjoy when the tinfoil hat wearers make outrageous claims though...I come here for the pure enjoyment..it is funny to watch them fall all over themselves when they think they are on to something. Government agencies do not need to hire people to make fools of you guys...you do a pretty damn good job of it yourselves...

I am not going to mention names (TAC), but i witnessed a well known member being outed once not too long ago. a 4chan type of campaign was undertaken to dig up who the guy was IRL to show that he was lying in a thread he authored. It also uncovered the startling probability that he worked for the DoD, posting as a profession.

I have also met a few movie folks on here that keep their IRL profiles very secret. Apparently having some money, and a movie persons personality, causes them to spend time doing personal research in their "off" hours.

"Home Grown Terrorist"...

Just to make sure we are all clear, this is a designation for people who do not agree with the government and actually speak out about it, and plan on how to regain control.

I am sure we have some nutso's out there....but not enough to create a new designation for them.

I would not consider individuals who acquire elements that are more or less used for devices that are targeted against civilians as home device.

disinfo! heh ,how would that work? it would still = out to an argument of pros and cons on both sides , but would it really work in changing the mind of someone who is destine to be correct? .........hog wash i say ......
sometimes people just tend to over think stuff , but i suppose anything is possible

It seems like pissing in an ocean of piss to me. There are already so many here willing to argue at the drop of the hat I doubt the government is all that concerned. But I'm new here

Okay, so why should they take notice ?

On the other hand, this site does handle many thousands of threads, i mean a simple search will bring up way too many threads unless you know exactly what you are searching for

True for sure. Star to you...And welcome to ATS!!

But its the quality of argument that counts rather than the sniveling that some on here spout.

I think ATS should hold an annual vote for persons most likely to be a disinfo agent. I'd findi t very amusing.

I see people aiming to say (rather obviously) that certain people are disinfo agents on a regular basis and for the most part it seems to just be an 'us and them' thing. IE ... they don't agree with us, so they're obviously disinfo agents.

You have to ask yourself though ... Why would they bother when people produce plenty of disinfo by themselves?

After all of the speculation about disinfo types with really no proof that they exists at all other than some folks calling others that name. This is the proof that many were looking for. Some may be of the opinion regarding this of "so what?" but that opinion I must respectfully say is exactly what the gov wants people to think. And could be considered a disinformation based comment also to promote the notion that others should not care baout it at all, when they need to care about it.

There is proof. I referenced it above. Search and ye will find.

No wonder the person i referred to actually came back and tried to post again. He knows that people don't pay attention and cognize simple things that they have seen.

I see your point but I was referring to an official source rather than a posse hunt on an internet forum. Roosting up one only proves that a single person was such. But with information regarding that the intel community recruiting such folks places it in an entire different specturm.

Take care...ML

The gentlman in question worked for the DoD, in a group that specializes in disinformation on public forums. That is what he did for a living.

He has since been banned. And the thread in which he was outed was deleted, apparently. It isn't in his thread list on his profile any more. All traces wiped away. No proof of anything, except in the memory of a few members.

I can guarantee you that government disinformation agents DO exist, and they ARE on ATS, with or without complicity from site ownership.

Someone should tell the DC mafia the truth will set them free... they wouldn't need to seed their "message" if they were doing good things for the right reasons.

MSM propaganda here
KABUL - The Taliban in recent months has developed increasingly sophisticated and nimble propaganda tactics that have alarmed U.S. officials struggling to curb the militant group's growing influence across Afghanistan.

Ah yes, the Talibans "growing influence" across Afghanistan is about words..not deeds. Reckless violence from un-invited NATO/US occupation forces couldn't possibly have anything to do with it, naaahhhh.. The righteous peaceful actions of a kind United States rooted in honesty & virtue apparently don't speak for themselves.

Inside every Afghan there's a flag waiving American democrat or republican in-tune with their dear party leaders rhetoric.. just like us, they watch the "news", so called... government sourced propaganda dutifully shilled forth, by a Fox/MSNBC branded mannequin .. Afghanis agree and understand US interests are served by continued division, occupation & destruction where they live... well,.. they would better understand if those darn Taliban would stop their propaganda.. lol
