I have a lot of respect for Icelanders. They have shown themselves to be a ballsy group of people who will not tolerate the funny business any more.

All of Europe is starting to show itself as a rowdy bunch of "patriots". I hope that it works for them. I hope America can do the same, peacefully or not.

Hell yeah Iceland, stick to 'em! Prove to them you can't be pushed around or you will hit back!

I doubt it will happen in America, it's truly sad.

once we can get enough others to agree, i am all for it. tell me where to be, and when.

but i am not going to sacrifice for nothing. I will be part of a movement, but not the lone rebel.

I so agree. Iceland got "taken to the bank" literally. Their economy and currency was destroyed on purpose by the elite who wished to force them to convert to the euro.

It was made a safehaven, that paid high interest. When the money was pulled out, the Krona collapsed.

Hello willimusin,

Nice to have you on ATS! Welcome!

Icelands history in this Global Meltdown is tragic! My heart goes out to you there in Iceland,
We here in the U.S. most likely will have much to learn from you patriotic people!

Its interesting times for sure when you have the elderly risking it!

What else is going on there that we should know about?

How is banking for the common individual? What is the job market like?
How is housing, prices for rent? How about food prices?

Is the government implementing any rationing?

There is no real media in Iceland, we usually get celebrity updates from around the world and political crap. People all over the country are losing their houses, jobs, familys.... last year a 50 something year old man in my area lost EVERYTHING. He was a very successful contractor he even built his own hous, but when the economy got #ed he lost his dream home, his multi million kronur car, pretty much all of his belongings and he still owed the bank millions! Well he drove his car into a huge hole in his driveway then demolished his house himself with a bulldozer, he was arrested but i'm afraid i have no idea what happened to him.
Then there's this 35 year old family man
www.visir.is...

Translation:

The car chase began after the mans attack on Skógarhlíðina, there he tried to drive through each of the fire departments exits unsuccessfully. Police officers arriving on the scene ran for it as the driver rammed their vehicle.

On his way to the police departments tele-communications network he crashed into a minivan and kept going. An ambulance tried to stop him by ramming him with no avail, he was finally arrested in the parking lot of the police station in Reykjavík. He was unarmed and with only minor injuries,

One police officer was injured but not seriously.

The man had called a local news network earlier that day and asked for media coverage. He was very anxious and said he had unfinished business with the police.

He called again later that evening, even more anxious than before. Then he said he was driving a 2 ton jeep going 140 kilometers an hour(90 miles?) and that he was headed downtown. He said he was going to drive into the police station then the tele-communications network. Plus he threatened to hurt police officers and cars if they were in his way.

“Don’t you think it’s ridiculous that I’m saying this?” he told the reporter and said he’d had enough of the police ignoring him. He said he was doing to finally get some attention from the people in control.

The reporter tried to calm him down and tell him to go home but the call ended abruptly when he said he had to call information for the location of the fire department.

“You’re gonna hear about this tonight”

sorry for incorrect spelling or something else i'm writing this in the middle of the night.

And as far as food rationing goes, we have yet to experience it... the food seems endless somehow.

Good news about the food. Food and shelter, lifes basic needs.
Wow, that man lost it, sorry to hear about it for him. Sad really.

My uncle used to keep a punching bag haning on the porch, he was a veteran.
I recently remembered this, now I understand.

Hang in there, thanks much for the info. Hope you and yours stay well.
