Al Gore delivered another speech today which was extremely critical of George Bush. Here is a brief excerpt

It is an extraordinary blessing to live in a nation so carefully designed to protect individual liberty and safeguard self-governance and free communication. But if George Washington could see the current state of his generation's handiwork and assess the quality of our generation's stewardship at the beginning of this twenty-first century, what do you suppose he would think about the proposition that our current president claims the unilateral right to arrest and imprison American citizens indefinitely without giving them the right to see a lawyer or inform their families of their whereabouts, and without the necessity of even charging them with any crime. All that is necessary, according to our new president is that he - the president - label any citizen an "unlawful enemy combatant," and that will be sufficient to justify taking away that citizen's liberty - even for the rest of his life, if the president so chooses. And there is no appeal.

What would Thomas Jefferson think of the curious and discredited argument from our Justice Department that the president may authorize what plainly amounts to the torture of prisoners - and that any law or treaty, which attempts to constrain his treatment of prisoners in time of war is itself a violation of the constitution our founders put together.

What would Benjamin Franklin think of President Bush's assertion that he has the inherent power - even without a declaration of war by the Congress - to launch an invasion of any nation on Earth, at any time he chooses, for any reason he wishes, even if that nation poses no imminent threat to the United States.

How long would it take James Madison to dispose of our current President's recent claim, in Department of Justice legal opinions, that he is no longer subject to the rule of law so long as he is acting in his role as Commander in Chief.

Drudge Report has the complete transcript. Do yourself a favor and go read the complete speech. Then tell me, are these the ravings of a madman or a truthteller? Of course, the conservative pundits at the Weekly Standard and the National Review will write that Al Gore is insane and off his meds, just like they did after Gore's last speech. And all the conservative talking heads will be on TV saying the same thing.

Did you notice that all these conservative spokesmen were saying the same thing about Al Gore at the same time? Did you notice that not one of them dealt in any substantive way with what Al Gore was saying?

The Republicans are desperate to keep you from hearing what Al Gore has to say. Just like they are desperate to keep you from hearing what Michael Moore has to say. Notice the Republicans are organizing attempts to pressure movie theaters into not showing "Fahrenheit 9/11". Notice the right-wing pundits are saying the movie is full of lies, even though they haven't seen the movie.

Read Al Gore's speech. Go see Michael Moore's movie. The truth is out there.

I think George Washington and Jefferson would have been kicking some arse in 1867.

Oh and is Gore forgetting a little thing called WACO?

George Washington might not have cared, but Jefferson would have gone bananas....correction...apesheet on Gores behind.

Since Washington and Jefferson were both dead in 1867, I doubt they would have been kicking anything.

Al Gore and Waco??? First of all, that has nothing whatsoever to do with my post. Second of all, please explain the connection between Al Gore and Waco.

Typical Republican tactics. Change the topic to something completely irrelevant.

Of course they will say Gore is insane. I'm sorry to say, a common tactic of the political and/or religious right these days seems to be to attack the character of naysayers and dissenters - the best to shut them up. For example, those who oppose the war on Iraq are, at best, cowards, at worst, traitors - but they're often seen as addled. Another manifestation of Dubya's "You're either with us or you're against us" policy.

Are you too stupid to realize thate Al Gore is saying that the Founding Fathers would be outraged at the current Administration?

They'd have been outraged at Abraham Lincoln, and at Ulyses S. Grant in 1867 when he allowed the abolishment of state legislatures when they did not ratify the 14th Amendment.

They'd have been outraged at Al Gore and Bill Clinton and Clinton's administration for the assault on Waco.

The fact you can not piece these together suggests to me you are posting at the wrong forums.

The fact that Otts is a hypocrite (does the word "Bush is an idiot" say anything to you) suggests to me that he is also at the wrong forums.

This whole thread is a flame box full of ignorant monkeys who just want to shout out their love for anyone who isn't Bush.

Go to teenspot.com/boards there are a lot of gullable baboons who would be more receptive to your trash.

Thanks don, and the answer is MADMAN and king of the run-on sentence. I don't know about Waco, but he sure is WACKO.

And, FreeMason they also would have been outraged at the utter lack of respect our former Presidnet, Al Gore's boss, had for the Oval Office. And the arrogance. And his disdain for the military. ETc., Etc.
