Porn studios to subpoena accused file sharers

news.cnet.com

The latest wave of copyright litigation against illegal file sharing was ignited by indie filmmakers, including the producers of "The Hurt Locker."

Getting into the action now are creators of such titles as "Tokyo Teens" and "Pornstar Superheroes." Three adult-film producers will soon begin sending subpoenas to Internet service providers, or ISPs, across the United States in an effort to learn the identities of people they claim shared their movies without permission over the Internet, Kenneth Ford, the attorney representing the filmmakers, said today.

This may change the game, in piracy, oddly enough, its the adult entertainment industry, taking the first steps. In lue to the odd ball threads arising on ATS, I am going to try to start finding News articles, that make our trip the the forum worth it.. I am not sure this is going to be anything of importance, but it might create a bit of fear or thought, before people decide to download, that movie or song on a warez site or a torrent spine.

Some of my internet marketing is in the porn industry.

I've stayed away from it in the last few years because there is NO money in it.

No one pays for porn these days, especially on the internet.

Hmmm... perhaps the pirates can work off any debt incurred!

If that's the case they may be one of the few areas of media that has a completely 100% valid claim to doing this. Unfortunately I think most people download porn due to perceived embarrassment rather than anything else.

But films that get onto torrents also generally do quite well. Some films even become more well known *because* of the torrent itself. I'm not saying piracy isn't a problem ... but then studios have always had problems. Sometime ago it was video stores and they attempted to stop people renting ... now it's the internet.

There's always something.

Not so odd, really. After all, it's pretty much acknowledged that the industry led the way in online payment systems and video streaming.

hmmm. I'd be very sceptical of this latest strategy - these porn dudes are making low budget 'movies' and then hoping that a bunch of folks illegally download them so that they can sue them.. poor show!

A company called ACS in the UK has recently come unstuck on a similar tactic and is looking likely to go bust

sample article here www.guardian.co.uk...

Any judge who believes that people have to illegally download porn is seriously out of touch, and my guess is that most persons of seniority in the legal system will be bang up to date on whats hot and whats not in this side of things

Well I think eventually, their going to find a way to throw people in jail or fine people money for downloading torrents, more and more stories are popping up where people are going to court..

So what I would like to ask here is, when you go to a video site, and stream a video, weather it be porn or not porn, is there any way to know weather or not some one is going to take you to court over watching that video? I mean there are millions of videos out there to watch is the only thing a movie company has to do is post there video on a video site then just wait for people to watch it so they can charge them through the legal system?

really? You dont think it's because its free?

free is better than pricey.

BTW- The music industry gets a significant portion of their income these days from lawsuits.. Looks like the movie industry is finally catching up.

No I don't think it is but I am not familiar with the terms, and I am not a (insert insultave adjective) lawyer. So are you saying that no one is trying to take to court people for watching, or streaming, if that is the right term, videos on line?

if the porn industry is such hype no pun intended being a user of these p2p sites, I think its a catch 22 situation cause they can interpret the porn and make their own name or label, then post it on these sites and the next user is searching for it using his terminology to find it and it turns out to be a teletubby flick with watermarks putting down the user for such label name topic etc
is the internet true enough to have instant access to whatever topic is being sought and be reliable to deliver such quality product.....

I'm glad you can stream pretty much all the porn you want.
