I think the most important thing that sets the Mayan 2012 thing apart from other prophecy is the Mayan stele which they didn't understand until very recently. They couldn't understand why there was a number 16.4 billion. Turns out it is about the age we consider the universe to be (give or take a couple of billion years). It defines Consciousness's rise in the universe and has ever shorter periods of time delineated.

To get a better idea, search Ian Lungold on youtube or google video.

Anyway... I just can't see the "cycle" of 16.4 billion years just "starting over" as many claim the Mayan calendar will do. Something very important must be in store, I would think.

Prophecies are a ironic thing....I have had my fortune told and let me tell you they have been right ,but it was never how I envisioned it at the time...Maybe, Dec 2012 will be similar .
Maybe something big will happen but its not what we think...

I got a prophecy for you. A dome shines in the light of a full moon falcon cries in the night before time of times.

The titan grasps a bundle of wheat as the falcon flies high over his head. The "great Giant" swats at the annoying falcon who transforms into a great eagle and claws the eyes of the Titan. The Mighty Giant is brought down in "Blindness" and stumbles into the burning funeral pyre. His prize of wheat all gone. fed to the flames "The Grand figure" yells in agony "I've fallen and I can't get up"! The Eagle turns back into a falcon and returns to it's nest laughing.

The end is near..neigh the end is nearer.
