In order for the First Amendment to be interpreted in the way the ACLU wishes, they have to add Jefferson's letter in the mix, which is not part of the the Constitution.

Compared to various sensible restrictions. For example, claiming that it is your freedom of religion to stone an adultress = bad.

The Constitution and our laws protect against that as well.

But the US isn't the only nation to have a constitution... Even the UK has one, of sorts.

That is what makes America what it is. The Constitution is the foundation for our entire Government. Every bill that is brought to congress SHOULD be proven with the constitution before it is made into law.

The passages 'love your neighbour as you love yourself', 'There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus' and 'judge not, lest ye be judged' can give a reasonably strong backing. After all, God, rather than man is the final judge, and thus we don't have a responsibility to prevent 'sinners' from 'sinning'. If God finds it so bad then gays will pay for it in the afterlife. If a religion goes against the laws protecting another then, no.
Besides stoning is a type of execution and those are performed by the state. All in all if a religion harms someone physically, usually it has become more of a cult and has stepped over in to the "judge and jury" area, which might lead to a church/state that our Constitution protects against.

Leftist, conservative right, they're all a smoke screen. The only political party are "the have's and the have not's. Keep spouting off how you don't like the left or how you don't like the right.
