Well said! Too many armchair rebels spout off about rebellion and revolution but have no idea of what the reality of that would be. Striking generally solves nothing (yes, yes I know there are the odd exceptions). Revolution in this day and age - pointless and will lead to many innocent deaths. Grow up.

I live in the US too, born and raised.. and I think you hit the nail on the head. Nobody really cares until it happens to them, and as of right now the only people that are really getting hit hard are people that were already low income to medium income. All of the upper class are doing everything they can to stay upper class... in reality it seems a lot more like they're doing everything they can to make even more money - if they don't make a profit of like 100% per year they just lay more people off - no big deal. (I have no idea what the actual profit margins actually are, I'm just trying to make a point.)

It also seems like ALL of the new jobs the government has worked so hard to create fall under one of three categories: 1) Government 2) Education and 3) Healthcare - but then again, depending on how you want to look at it, all three of these could simply be classified as "Government".

i dont understand how a community like ats who prides themselves on their intelligence can let yourselves get drawn into the idea that socialist principles are the pinnacle achievement of human society. I havent ever had the notions that unions were a positive contribution in a free economy or the outlandish claims that capitalism is the gateway drug to socialism or worse or that protesting was the most effectuve means to ever make anything happen.

people all over the world have more than enough reasons to be pissed off enough to raise hell. massive bloody protests nor civil conflict will bring about the desired change though. in fact, the ptb should be so lucky if the american public were to declare war against the state. they would have the last piece in place to legitimize complete capture of the people and govt of the us.

is this in defense of americans? hell no i hate most of my fellow countrymen for living such meaningless lives. amazingly its all they know and people are just lately starting to really wake up from the stronghold and deep capture in EVERY segment of our american lives, from education to health and nutrition to politics. hell americans have been lied to for so long and are generally so clueless im thankful theyre not taking to the streets because im not entirely sure theyd be fighting on the right side if the fight!

I think you've exaggerated the causes somewhat to "fit in" with myriad of moans on this site. There is only one cause : Austerity measures to pay for bankers bailouts. I suspect the Irish are about to go into meltdown with the latest news that the banks need another 16billion euros.

Let me tell you how the media works.

I live in Paris, France. In 2005, there were some riots in the poor, immigrant-dominated outskirts of Paris. When I say riots, I basically mean young kids setting cars on fire, while throwing rocks at firemen and police. It's a pretty common occurrence in Paris suburbs, but this time it spread to other similar suburbs in other cities, so it became a national event.

The media was all over this like flies on fresh cow dung. My aunt who lives in Austria called me up - real worried - and asked me if I needed to come over to Austria to take refuge, because the impression she got from watching Austrian TV was that the whole of Paris was in flames, and you could hardly go outside without getting attacked by violent rioters. Amused, I explained to her that in central Paris, not a siren could be heard, no cars burned and everything was just business as usual.

So in short it works like this, you blow it all out of proportions, the story ends up on page one, if you report it factually the story ends up in the back next to the weather section.

Lots of people only read page one.

I didn't see the riots that apparently took place in Spain a few days ago, but I did see the demonstrations that took place in France last week with my own eyes. Mainly it was just lower middle class and working class people demonstrating against a pension reform. No riots, no police cars burning.

Every European country has its particular social/economic woes, and the reasons for protesting are all different. So if you try to bunch them all up and read something out of it, you're making a conspiracy out of nothing.

What would be more effective than protests, would be a consumer boycott.

Stopped buying everything but the essentials, stop borrowing money, let the house of cards that is our finance industry collapse.

No my friend! most countries of Europe has an retirement age of 65 - the only Southern European country that had retirement age at 55 for public workers was Greece! and look what happened to them.

To say like you do in your statement and give the readers the impressions that all European countries are having retirement at 55 is nothing less than pure propaganda and ignorance for European politics, and ignorance about European conditions!

65 has been the age since decades ago! - and now they want to raise it to 67 in most countries.

It is always to easy to blame the Americans, this world has been a big mess way before there even was an America,

America is, was a dream, a good dream for many, a dream of hope and a better life for everyone, only thing is we have been lied to, by the very people we believed in, but not just in America, but in just about all countries.

This is a problem but really it matters little to me now, cause I see the light Brother, Sister, the Lord, Creator has grabbed me up, made me whole.

I was thinking about this last night, and had a thought-bubble concerning the recent travel warnings from the UK and US, I am sure more will follow.

I think its well established that much of Europe is more progressive (to use that term) than say the UK and US, and there are massive civil uprisings taking plac, it is my conclusion that another motivating factor in this decision to declare a travel warning is the following:

The US and UK want to limit their citizens exposure to what the Europeans are protesting, because some of the ideas may prove to be attractive.

I smile everytime I see a news broadcast about massive demonstrations lately, because it seems that at each and every one of them, there are people waving the anarchist flag, communist party banners, anti-neoliberalism signs etc etc.

People are beginning to see the real causes of problems, and that idea is scary for those in control.
