m.theglobeandmail.com...

I'm typing on my phone so no snippet

essentially prostituting will not be a criminal act in Ontario in 30 days unless something happens to delay it

I'm not making any value judgements here but on the radio they interviewed some women who said it would make it safer for the sex workers themselves

I'm surprised but not dissapointed, I always assumed my government to be super conservative, but I guess judges can slip into the backdoor, no pun intended

There's a TV show, here in the states, that comes on in the middle of the night, once per week, called "DaVinci's Inquest, I think, that led me to believe this was already the case in Canada.

Now I've got one more reason to envy Canadians.

Well that and Degrassi.

More like getting screwed thrice. Customers will be forced to pay more for less to accommodate this new Tax.

I wonder if Canadians will be able to claim these "meetings" as deductions (if done during working hours of course)?

Well taxing them might be one of the cascading effects of the ruling

ultimately it means less spending on incarcerating and undercover ops that don't solve anything

now they need to decriminalize marijuana
but if thy do that the USA will declare war on us Canucks

Vices are NOT crimes: www.lysanderspooner.org...

This goes for Drugs as well. A crime requires a "Victim", who's the victim? This was a trick by the illuminati to control the masses. The very Book (Bible) that is used as a basis for "morality" NOT ONLY states that: God gave man permission to eat of any "tree" on the planet Earth - except for One - and we ate of that one as well. But it then goes on to say - it is Not what goes in a mans mouth that defiles him - but what comes out.

Perhaps if one were Muslim, then intoxicants will be Haram...

Like Dolomite says:
sell your booty, but get your money first at any cost
cause booty sold on credit, is some good booty lost...

As long as the prostitutes and customers are of age, I don't know why it's the government's business, anyway. I wish the US would take a lesson.

It should be legal. It can be better controlled that way. It will be safer for all involved.
It will be a business that can be taxed. I'm all for it.

Side note - they should legalize dope in the same way that alcohol is legal.

Toronto judge decriminalizes prostitution

The world's 'oldest profession' has always been just outside of legislative reach. Outlawing what is essentially a natural act between two people is about the same as trying to make high tides illegal along the coast.

Moral compass and taxation are the driving forces behind the legal efforts, with the latter probably more relevant in today's society than the former. In a nutshell, how does an elected body pass a tax on prostitution that effectively places the sale of sexual service next to that of carpet cleaning and lawn maintenance? But making it even less appealing is how does the government sanction said paid service without taxing it?

Prostitution has always been and will always be with us. The only drawback is that in this society, many women are forced into this line of work for lack of any other means of support. If there is a crime, it is that.

The problem here is that it was a judge who basically challenged the constitution to get out of a bad rap

Jane die who does that stuff wouldn't have been able to even think about it

what happens if a judge gets caught doing other illegal stuff like drugs or theft?

I don't know how this erupted into a tax discussion; the act is being decriminalized, not legalized. It is still illegal, you just won't be going to jail for it.

Furthermore, I have to say it's about time. Just another one of those things that were suppressed by religion and are now suppressing our choices today in the "free world".

It has always puzzled me why it is illegal to charge for something that is legal to give away?

That just defies logic.

I have some very serious concerns about this.

If it is decriminalized but not legalized, will this not increase a pimps ability to control the prostitutes?

If it isn't legalized and regulated it does nothing to help prevent some of the biggest dangers to prostitutes, ie: drugs, violent pimps, violent johns, etc.

My opinion, if you are going to decriminalize it, legalize it. We don't need another "gray" area of the law that will allow more abuse.

Haha, it's a no-brainier, isn't it?

Well, what should I do:

(1) Spend X amount of dollars trying to make myself look personable, make her feel like a Princess, make her laugh, buy her flowers and take her home over the few dates. In essence, spend a sizable amount of money on her, not knowing if she really likes you or not, and expecting nothing more than a small kiss.

(2) Pay an escort money to have sex or perform sexual favours for me without worrying about the above.

Option 2 kind of looks better. Add in the bonus that you cannot go to jail for doing number 2, and it looks even better.
