(CNN) -- The University of Texas at Austin gave people the OK to leave campus Tuesday morning after a suspected gunman wielding an AK-47 fired shots and then turned the gun on himself inside a campus library.

On Tuesday, September 28 at 6:00pm, a coalition of student organizations on the University of Texas Austin campus, including the Libertarian Longhorns, the UT Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, the UT Objectivism Society and the UT Federalist Society, will be hosting John Lott, famed defender of gun rights and author of the book “More Guns, Less Crime”.

Lott’s work in “More Guns, Less Crime” is commonly cited by many liberty-minded people when arguing against gun control laws, and Lott will be sharing some of his expertise in this field to the audience of students and members of the community of Austin.

Austin has been a hot-bed of debate over the potential of state laws being passed that would make it legal for a person to carry a concealed handgun on college campuses.

If you are in the Austin area on the 28th, stop by the UT Law School and hear John Lott discuss the negatives of gun control and the positives of a free society!

Wow, that seems a little ironic. This could actually work in favor of the pro gun advocates.. depending on how many kids got killed in that library, far less would've died had they been armed. Good argument, in my eyes, to allow conceal and carry permits in more people. People with conceal and carry permits are not going to go through the classes and licensing process just to bring the gun somewhere and shoot the place up. The people who are going to shoot a place up aren't going to have a permit.

Its like that old quote that goes like "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them."

Gun control advocates have an unbroken track record of school shootings taking place on campuses that have gun bans in place.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out the inherent flaws with liberal ideology as it pertains to ALL laws, not just gun laws.

Apparently liberals (and conservatives on the issue of drugs and terrism) have it in their muddled brains that laws can actually prevent violent crime, fraud, theft, and all manner of abuse.

They can not.

Laws can only accomplish one thing - one thing only. They can only punish after the fact, they can not prevent.

Because laws can only punish and not prevent, any law that seeks to prevent a crime from taking place rather than punish the wrong doer after the fact, is inherently doomed to failure.

A short list of catastrophic failures of laws that revolve around this ridiculous ideology:

-all drug laws (ALL of them)
-anti-terrorism laws
-all gun laws
-all industrial regulations
-all financial regulations
-basically any regulatory measure ever created by any government agency

There is a distinct difference between regulations and laws that punish for transgressing against another person or their property.

For example, murder laws have a victim. Murder laws punish those who murder others. Gun laws, on the other hand, have no victim. They do not deter or prevent murder from taking place. If someone wants to engage in murder, they certainly aren't going to care about violating gun regulations.

The same can be said of financial regulations. If someone wants to engage in fraud (which is a crime that has a specific victim), they aren't going to care about breaking financial reporting regulations and cooking their books.
