favorite:

the tone of the human voice. deep male voices that don't sound angry or shrill. women's voices that sound kind or playful. english accents are the best.

least favorite:

modern, compressed popular music.


i like your question. sound is sensual and we forget that we can have favorite sounds the way we can have favorite pictures or touches.

my favorite sounds are so vast. i love hearing animals running thru the brush at night. i love listening to rocks roll in the ocean waves. (if you are under water on a pebble beach, you can hear the pebbles rock and roll in the crashing waves, INCREDIBLE sound.) i love hearing water, the ocean, river, rain, etc. i gotta admit, i love hearing a chick 'get into it.'

sounds i hate. the alarm ringing, any alarm to wake me up. i hate the emergency broadcast sound probably most of all. no joke HATE it. i hate listening to liars, and in this protocolirffic dominated society of ours, liars are everywhere [media, politicians, cops, bullies, etc..]

Moog synths (and most analog synths, for that matter)



Yamaha TX81z (I actually have one of these )



And of course, the sound of a good guitar (I wish I actually had one of these )

Least favorites: Mouth noises (licking, spitting, smacking, etc.), a chalkboard being scratched and whining.

I have had the pleasure of hearing this sound first hand. OMG it is so heavenly! Sometimes I would stay underwater and listen to that sound until I could barely breathe. It is that magical. Makes me want to reincarnate into a pebble on a pebble beach. (and hopefully somehow as a rock, be able to hear!)

I read an article on this very subject somewhere once, and it included a link to a seamless looping soundbyte of the sound I am describing. Very relaxing to listen to.

Sort of like the ambient, white noise used in certain scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Lots of good replies. I like nature sounds, water, storms, frogs, crickets and as someone mentioned, farm equipment or a mower in the far distance. Don't like noisy kids or babies crying, alarm clocks or that high-pitched hissing sound that some big trucks make when they are beside you, when they stop at a light or stop sign. (I think it's their brakes) or cats fighting in the middle of the night. Oh and our dog makes this god-awful sound when she coughs. She has a throat condition and it sounds horrible. Poor thing.

I love the sound of sleeping trees in a snow covered forest. That ancient gental hush is my favorite.

My son's laughter.


Don't like the sound of too many people, in too small of an area, with one exception, a concert. The energy ride is abso-frekin-lutely amazing. Nails on a chalk board.

Oh yeah.....SolarE-Souljah.....there is something about dumming that just does it for me too......a recognition....a calling.....hard to put into words.

Favorite sounds: a rooster crowing in the morning, birds singing, rain storms

Least favorite: cars/trucks on the highway, dogs barking, little girls that scream!
