1600 - Giordano Bruno, a Dominican friar, is burned at the stake for writing:

“Innumerable suns exist! Innumerable earths circle around their suns, no worse and no less inhabited than this globe of ours. For no reasonable mind can assume that heavenly bodies that may be far more magnificent than ours would not bear upon them creatures similar or even superior to those upon our human Earth.”

Four hundred years later -- in 2000 -- the Vatican apologizes for the "atrocious" death, through Cardinal Angelo Sodano.

2000 - At a conference in Bellaria, Italy, Vatican exorcist, and close friend of the Pope, Coraldo Balducci tells Zacharia Sitchin :

That life may exist on other planets is certainly possible... The Bible does not rule out that possibility. On the basis of scripture and on the basis of our knowledge of God’s omnipotence, His wisdom being limitless, we must affirm that life on other planets is possible... credible and even probable.
Balducci/Sitchin meeting

April 2005 - Pope John Paul II dies. Pope Benedict XVI succeeds him.

Just goes to show with Galileo too:

But it is common knowledge (at least I hope it is) how the Church operates and that hardly non of their thoughts are infallible and poven wrong. This puts alot of integrity down the gutter imo.

Now that they realise from market research that belief in Aliens in place of God is getting higher and Aliens actually have a better chance of actually being real (as opposed to God) they're starting their damage control early.

Despite how much they claim the bible and Aliens can coexist without any problems is nonsensical + telling how they fail to explain how. God did not make the universe in seven days and man is not the center of creation - "biblical truths". It would be funny how almost everything becomes "metaphors" once aliens show up offering a different worldview.

And to mention...that the catholic church not sticking to christian teachings puts them in an even less favorable postion...oh...not with the those that believe in Aliens...but those that are christian.
