I have to plead ignorance here on how the palaces are financed and the financial relationship between the royal family and the British government.

However, the first question that comes to my mind is the plural "palaces". If it was just the queen's palace being discussed than why wouldn't taxpayers heat that?

But how many other palaces are there? And why should taxpayers pay to heat more than one palace for the queen?
