I have observed that when someone dies unexpectedly, if you look at their life they have achieved something.

Martin Luther King, J F Kennedy, Janis Joplin, River Phoenix, Elvis Presley, Heath Ledger, Steve the croc man,
Princess Diana, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, the list goes on endlessly.

I think we are here for a purpose.

Be grateful if you have not yet fulfilled that purpose.

And before someone asks me about babies and children who die - I have not worked that out and I wish I knew.

Interesting thought cat.

My only question would be how we know what our purpose is?

Many people, such as the ones you mention above, did a lot but could have gone on to do a lot more. Maybe the "lot more" was there true purpose, not the things they achieved before they died?

I know people who appear to have absoloutely no purpose on this planet, i'd guess they never will....so should they drop down dead now?

Maybe their calling is destined for their latter years?

You are probably correct Cat. When my time comes I want it to be for good reason. I do not want to die a meaningless death. If I am to die, let it be in the service of others.

i concur... we all have a mission, some just don't realize it...for others their mission quest is just not clear...

the fortunate few know their place and just what they are supposed to do

i'm one of those who is not quite clear on just what their mission is/was...
i have had two NDEs with 10-14 days comas, and recovery periods ranging from 5 years to my present recovery into its 13th year.

all i know is that after decades at SC beaches, i was driven in a quest to the SW desert area,
i did Sedona and that whole new-age trip...but it was the shock of seeing 5 young Arab men
taking flight school in April-May 1995 at the Scottsdale AZ airport facility that elicited that
AH-HA ! moment----the realization that Yes- that's why i was led to Phoenix AZ since 1990
(so i sent the Tip Letter to the Phoenix office of the FBI that very day)

i guess i did my mission... because 2 years later (after refusing to return to SC) while in
Phoenix, i had a subarachnid brain hemhorrage, survival rate ~5%, and was 'fortunate'
enough to be in the vicinity of one of the top world brain injury hospitals and the specialist
Doctors/Surgeons to treat the condition.

so, perhaps its all a internal construction, but i feel that i have been rewarded for doing my
little piece of the 911 puzzle.... and my future mission quest is to endure the 2012 time frame,
and grow my foo-manchu mustache to my waist in the meantime

Sorry Cat, I normally agree with your thoughts but to me, live is random...

No one knows why they are here or when they will leave..

The best we can hope for is that we are remembered and preferably made a difference,

even if it was ever so small, to improve someone else's life.

I believe I have done that in my own little way, so I am content..

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP. We come here in order to fulfil our purpose and then we leave. This is indeed apparent the more you research Ayuasca.

A whole bunch of Japanese people all fulfilled their purpose at the exact same time on August 6, 1945. That's pretty impressive.

I spent a long time wondering what my purpose in life was. What was that one thing I had to do to complete my 'mission' ?

I used to say out loud to whatever powers would hear me "Tell me what to do and I'll do it'. I just wanted to be done with it and on my way.

Well, now I've come to terms with the idea that I don't have some marvellous destiny to fulfill, I'll never be a hero.

I just try to make each day a good one for me and those around me. Play with my dog, feed the birds, - try to go to bed at night with a clear conscience.

It isn't much, but I'm making a difference to someone. That little worm I picked up off the road will go on to make a difference to his environment

Maybe that's all some of us can do in life - make a difference to the smaller picture rather than make an impact on the bigger one.

Maybe finding some joy in each day and appreciating our environment and those around us can be fulfillment enough?

What if some of us here just to experience life itself? Living in the country and watching plants grow from tiny seeds with help from the rain and sunshine has been a revelation to me. Of course, I always knew they did that, be seeing it in such abundance every day slams it home what a miraculous world we live in. And that it can be enjoyed and appreciated just for itself.

Define "A purpose".

What is the purpose of the millions of children born in third world countries only to starve to death?

To think we all have a purpose on this planet is a load of crap.

Oh wait, maybe the purpose of the starving, dying children is to keep people who aren't starving humble and grounded....nope, can't be that either, otherwise this thread wouldn't exist...

Define "A purpose".

The object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal:
A result or effect that is intended or desired; an intention
Determination; resolution
To intend or resolve to perform or accomplish.Intentionally; deliberately. With good results/With few or no results.

Sometimes it takes much time to see good in every bad situation.

"Purpose" would have to be very subjective in this theory. I see many elderly waste away in nursing homes. No one comes to visit them. They are medicated beyond rational thought. They are basically wasting away. Maybe there is a purpose hidden somewhere in that scenario, but I am grasping at thin air in my attempt to find it.

Nonetheless, it's a nice thought.

Very interesting thought. I was always a firm believer that everyone was put on this earth for a reason. Even if the reason isn't to change the world, everyone does small things everyday that effect everyone around them, and alot of the time you dont even notice. Were all in this world effecting everything and everyone around us, its a strange thought when you really start to think about it.

Most everyone was put on this planet to grease the wheels of commerce.
Very, very few have the intelligence, drive, or awareness to do anything other than consume and procreate.

Even that is a noble purpose in the grand scheme of things.

Hi Cat!, I think you are beating around a bush, so to speak. I figured this out after a NDE, I had back in 1978. I would call it the "judgment of the legends of anagram". We are given a wee piece of God's eternal present when we are christened, as infants. If you have had your own close calls, then do the anagrams of your life right up to that day. For myself, I was given a choice, whether to go with my ministering spirit, then, or later. So I chose later, of course. But the anagram for that day, gleaned from my christened name would have been, "Judged Oregon Divide". And since my NDE did occur high up on a watershed divide in the Pacific Northwest, in what was once, the old Oregon Territory, I guess it really does work. Hopefully, I'll get a rewind of the anagrams of my christened name, before the day I really croak. If I make good, maybe I'll get a much bigger judgment. Otherwise, it may prove to be; 'only the good, die young'.

.............."The base of your Universe, your so called heavens, seem to hold such an attraction for you.
You waste your time and energy going there, for you are constantly there. You at present, have no alternative for you are "grounded" at the bottom of all there is of yourself. Planets fascinate astronomers, and stars they wallow in, looking for that Nebula of gas and so on. If they took the trouble and time to consider all as it truly is, they would know its purpose for Truth............."

So if I never achieve anything I'll be immortal? Awesome! I wish someone had told me this earlier!

I'm just going to sit back in an empty white room with no doors and no distractions while I enjoy immortality. Thanks for helping me live forever!
