Pretty much.. I've seen a lot of people who are told "Just lift weights brah" and get on this great diet, but they have almost no exercise done. And eventually quit because they don't see results other than some weight lifted. Long distance running enforces discipline.

I think you're just on my thread because you got BUTT HURT and want to get in a pissing contest because you're a "jogger dude", so you oppose me as if I'm a 'weightlifter dude". Even though I don't even OWN WEIGHTS...

You're taking this WAY too personal for it to be a simple disagreement in something. You're emotionally invested and it's coming through your posts.

I guess I hit a nerve when spoke about the fact that this method is superior for weight loss compared to MONTHS and HOURS of jogging or long duration 'cardio' workouts. It happens all the time when it's mentioned how UNDERRATED cardio is. Some jogger/runner type always has to go on the attack, as if we're in FITNESS GANGS.

But you go ahead and be the 'jogger guy'...it's no sweat to me dude.

I like your post. I forgot to mention the benefit of olive oil in food preparation. Thanks for the reminder.

Despite what some might proclaim to be, the people on ATS are not 'psychic' they do not "get" what you are "saying" because you "put" it in "quoatations". Do you get what I am "saying"?

You said cardio is worthless and a waste of time. I don't assume that by cardio is worthless that you really mean "just some cardio is worthless" I got on your thread because your post had some major fallacies to it.

I think you hit a nerve when you posted something that was completely retarded and wrong. Maybe you should'nt say "Cardio is worthless" unless you mean cardio is worthless.

Go take an an Anatomy and Physiology class and get your facts straight. Your post, still shows a severe lack of knowledge on how the human body actually works.

I refer to this

Screw "Cardio"...period. Cardio takes a toll on your body over time, it has almost no results for fat loss, it does not increase you resting metabolic rate for long term, it zaps you of energy and makes you crave high calorie foods after doing it, has been show to decrease lung capacity.

Which is completely wrong except for the high calories foods. Which is what your body always wants anyway.

Excessive cardio (as seen in daily joggers/runners) can cause break down of tissues through oxidative stress, raises cortisol, LOWERS testosterone, increases appetite quickly, and burns a small amount of calories for the time spent. Numerous recent studies have shown this, and almost every fitness trainer I know personally, know this.

This information wasn't even well known just 3 YEARS AGO, because people were touting the 'old ways'. The fitness industry has changed that much in a small time.

Dr. Cooper coined the term AEROBIC...he is considered the FATHER of "aerobics".

en.wikipedia.org...

He switched his views after the rage of "aerobics" and long duration training caused health problems in some of his friends.

NOW he speaks AGAINST his original assertions that excessive cardio (over 20 minutes at a time) is beneficial. He has done much research to show now that it is HARMFUL in the long term.

But you keep attacking me because I state so.

You're a CARDIO JUNKIE and you're offended at the fact that the average person using the USELESS method of EXCESSIVE CARDIO to lose weight is going to harm themselves.

You're the one that needs 'education' my friend.

Not to get into the middle of something, lol, but actually, I have been reading some of the same information stated above.

I recently read an article suggesting that short bursts of intense activity followed by a period of rest, may be the most efficient type of exercise.

The explaination was basically that ancient man's activities would have been short bursts of energy, ie hunting, or some other type of physical activity that was not prolonged. It would not have been common for them to run for miles at a steady pace, on the whole. Supposedly our bodies are hard wired for this method to be the most efficient overall.

That being said, everybody is a little different, and what works for one may not exactly work the same way for others. The OP said he hardly eats any carbs such as bread, rice, pasta and so on. I eat rice and pasta occasionally, and I eat bread, but not that much. My downfall is potatoes, lol.

The point is, whatever exercise a person does should not be done to extremes, should be a mixture of different types, and most importantly, it should definitely be something you enjoy,

No one way of doing it is the only way, or the only right way.

We should just be encouraging each other in our efforts to become healthier.

God Bless

While this post has very much motivated me to start trying to lose weight again( i was doing very well, then injured my hip and i just havent had the same motivation since then.) I believe the absolute best way to lose weight is a combination of hardcore muscle workout, cardio, and interval training, which is what im going to be doing. Works the entire body, gives the most adrenaline, or "burn".

Potatoes are great, they get a bad wrap. I make potato soup all the time. Breads are great too. I eat bread every day. But I make sure it's a low cal bread. Like I said in the OP, EZEKIEL brand makes some good bread. Other brands come close to if it's too expensive. EZEKIEL bread is also high in protein. It's more balanced than "wheat bread" or 'enriched flour' breads.

I just stay away from cakes, pastries, cookies, pastas, chips and such. "Snack foods" to be exact. Especially Pasta.

Pastas are the worst invention EVER. The calories per serving is ridiculous. One bag is like 2400 calories average. I can eat a whole bag in one sitting...with cheese and sauce...

It's almost EVIL...it should be thrown out of every kitchen. LOL

Breads and Cereals are really all you need, along with fruit...high density fruit to be exact.

Exactly, potatoes, yum! And I LOVE potato soup. As a matter of fact, I love homemade soup, and eat a lot of it. Fills you up, and usually loaded with good healthy things that taste good.

I have to admit, I am somewhat of a sweets eater, but like I said, I stick with something that will give me a little nutrition instead of empty calories. Also, I have gotten to the point that if I want cookies or something like that, I make it myself instead of buying it. I am not much of a snack chip eater, but when I do, I get a snack size plastic bag and only eat that amount, no dipping out of the bag for me. (Or, not that often.)

Two things I forgot to mention in my list before was, eat more soup, and eat a lot less processed food.

I really don't buy much frozen meal type stuff either, because of all the chemicals they put in them, even the "good" brands. If I do, I try to make sure I can pronounce most of the ingredients, lol.

As far as breads go, it's not my big crave, so I guess I'm lucky there. Good thing too, cause my husband could eat his weight in bread, lol.

WOW!
Thats crazy that you can eat bread and potatoes like you say.

Personally I am not worried too much about calories as my goals require me to retain muscle and continue muscle growth. i do have some carbs sometimes, but They would be what most call good carbs. High fiber types.

Beyond that I have been weight training so long and doing the high protein thing that I would fatten up real quick on what you eat. LOL I know because it has happened before.

Just goes to show you science really doesn't know what the hells going on in the realm of personal fitness. There are really so many differing views that the beginners tend to get confused easily then become discouraged. Its best in my opinion to just experiment with things until you get it right and stick with it.

There is no miracle diet that works for everyone. In this day and age personal health and fitness are probably one of the most commercialized industries out there, next to porn. Everyone has the best product and everyone has the best idea.

Man...I have to jump back in here...because of comments like this:

...there is no miracle diet for everyone

Really? Because, last I checked, wild animals consume identical diets intraspecies, regardless of "genetics" or "fast metabolisms".

There IS a diet for everyone. It's the diet that humans evolved eating, and quite possibly the diet responsible for human evolution.

Yeah that's proof. Because fitness trainers are smart people. Except their not, they are some of the dumbest people I've ever met in my life.

Apparently you don't realize that stress is how your body gets spent. The metabolic increase is usually quite severe for the un-conditioned person. It's hard to observe athletes that are trained, and have been training their whole life. Do you know why? because their body is built around that one activity.

Where are your studies? I want to know who funded them. Because that is, and many science professors have told me that "Studies don't necessarily mean anything." And usually the fitness industry pumps out studies with the results they want to increase sales. The fitness industry sells a certain method of exercise and the products to make you better at it.

Well, that does it. I guess you're right. All studies are irrelevant.

I'm gunna go ahead and agree with Prove_it_now on this one. Steady state cardio is probably one of the biggest *meep* ups in exercise history. I tell clients to avoid the treadmill at all costs. It's boring. It's unhealthy. It's inefficient. It doesn't really work. And did I mention it's boring?

That's why most people can't see it's value. I experience a form of meditation while I run. Most people don't like it because it's boring. So in other words, they don't want to do something because it's hard.

But to state that it ruins your lung capacity is one of the dumbest things I've heard. I have a lung capacity thats far past most normal people. I can essentially survive on 2 breaths per minute, and have done so for awhile (Trying mess with EMT students taking my vital signs). The main thing being that it takes oxygen in good amounts to keep going for an hour or more at a time.
I didn't say all studies were meritless, that's obviously not true. You just need to know where the money is coming from. If a well known supplement industry is funding something, then putting it in their magazine while trying to suggest a product to conform to their study that they bought, it's suspicious, no? And that happens with just about ever ad I see in a bodybuilding magazine.
