Obama: U.S. changing battle plan on poverty

the United States is changing its approach to development and will use diplomacy, trade, investment and other policies to help poorer countries instead of just giving them money.

The new strategy, which administration officials said was the product of a nearly yearlong effort, also includes anti-corruption measures and calls for accountability from the U.S. and the countries it partners with.

"We have learned to be skeptical of big announcements at summits," Seery said in a statement. "What really counts is where the money is coming from, which means leaders going home and putting th

Does this administration have any credibility in commiting to this?

Where is the money coming from?
How will this money come about?

Yes the above video is relevant because it's about spending to cut costs.

Hiding doesn't count as spending cuts

It also includes:

also includes anti-corruption measures and calls for accountability from the U.S. and the countries it partners with.

How will this form of accountability be implemented?
Will it in any way compromise the sovereignty of these foreign countries?

Personally I believe we have to start at home, not only should this be his focus since he is the president of the united states but also helping the home economy will help trade, imports and exports by the buying of more goods.

Before concentrating on trade, exports and imports shouldn't the country you wish to have participate so much in this initiative not be in an economic crisis?
Shouldn't people's living standard increase so they could buy more and california saved and curb tent cities?

Not only should that by default be his first priority but also it would help his initiative even more too.
This is BOTH the right thing and most efficient thing to do.

This is no conspiracy, we are all just normal people living normal lives, how can we be able to figure this out but not the President of the most powerful country in the world?

There's of course something wrong here!

The sad part of most people will praise this like there is no tomorrow like Zombies!

i wholeheartedly agree. it's exactly like those tv commercials where they beg you to send money to help some african or south american child, when we've got thousands, if not millions, of children here at home who need help.

and you're right, we should be concentrating on helping our own by using our tax dollars(our hard earned money) to build infrastructure and jobs here at home first. sadly it won't happen. our own issues will be paid lip service while we send billions abroad to help people who's own governments should be doing it in the first place and the silly masses here will applaud with tears in their eyes.what a world.

Diplomacy and trade are what these poverty stricken countries need, instead of simple dollars that are eaten up by corruption.

I firmly believe that focusing here first would benefit the world more than a govt. that has a tendency to overthrow foreign nations helping foreign nations.

End the god damn wars, bring the troops back, fix the deficit, and cut income tax rates, this will increase living standards and create more jobs. We will also end up buying more from these trade agreements.

If a global economy is not run by the people of the globe but only powerful people how can you possibly forecast progression?

I never said send them more money, in fact send them even less, it doesn't all get to the people anyhow, USAID has helped alot of countries but I believing concentrating at home will help them more.

Donations from people help countries more than govts.

If Obama truly wants to help foreign countries then get rid of the World Bank and the IMF and stop sending millions and millions of dollars to Israel every 5 seconds.

This administration has zero credibility, you are still clinging to that same "hope" buzzword that he ran on but never delivered.

Time to wake up!
