HI everyone! I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section, so if I am not I apologize, and feel free to move this where ever it belongs. I use G-mail as my e-mail provider and today while checking my emails I noticed something strange. I always double check my spam folder just to make sure things that are relevant don't end up in there because they have before. While checking my spam folder there was only one message and it was from "The Co bordered" but when I put my cursor on that name the email address popped up. I don't really want to post the e-mail address because if someone's email got hacked I don't want to post someone's email address, but I will if I have to. Anyways, the subject of the email is "In from a circulated gate a HBCU list." The email didn't seem like the usual spam emails, selling pills or porn advertisements, so I opened it up.

The body of the email was "Outerplanar graphs are graphs with an embedding in the plane such that all vertices belong to the unbounded face of the embedding. According to the book, The Big Lie, by Garry Boulard (2001), Long proved instrumental in charges levied against gubernatorial candidate Hale Boggs of New Orleans in the 1951-1952 campaign that Boggs was a communist." I have no idea what any of this means, I'm going to do some research as soon as I get some time. I was just posting this here to see if maybe anyone else got that spam email or if anyone has any idea what it means.

Thank you for the link, I will read in to it. I guess what confuses me is why would someone send that to me? If you were going to spam people's email accounts, why would you pick this as your message? I will check that link though, thank you.

Yeah, I wouldn't know but I tried to help best I could with your quest for understanding on this matter. I don't know why you'd got sent that but from the google search it seems like your the only one to be emailed that no one else has posted that email body. Spam always is duplicated and it seems a little strange also with the subject matter of this email.

Maybe you should research the subject, rather than the body or maybe both, It could be a clue into what it is you seek the knowledge of what the email means and who was behind it. I have one question was the email address a big company or someone random i.e [email protected] or [email protected]?

I just read that passage on the wikipedia link you supplied, it seems like that's the passage word for word in my email. Almost like someone copy and pasted that from Wikipedia. The email address seems to be someones personal email, so I'm thinking about simply replying and asking a few questions. I think the email may have came from Italy because the end of the email address is this "@telecomitalia.it". I don't know anyone from Italy, I was in the military for a while, but I never visited Italy.

OK, I am thinking maybe this person's account has been hacked and a virus designed to copy and paste garbage from the internet lose on emails that are posted on the web via facebook or other website's with public profiles.

I'm afraid its spam, I get spam from MY OWN gmail account lol. It tells me that something is seriously not right with my email account. I have no idea but it all goes in the spam folder so it doesn't bother me one bit.

Yah you're probably right about the email being hacked or it might even be a fake account. I tried to email it back and gmail emailed me back and said "Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently." Maybe it was some kind of fake account to just rattle off messages until it gets shut down.

First part :

Related families of graphs

Outerplanar graphs are graphs with an embedding in the plane such that all vertices belong to the unbounded face of the embedding.

Second part :

According to the book, The Big Lie, by Garry Boulard (2001), Long proved instrumental in charges levied against gubernatorial candidate Hale Boggs of New Orleans in the 1951-1952 campaign that Boggs was a communist.

It seems to me that someone was perhaps compiling themselves a list of information from Wiki under some topic about co-boredered or whatever, and was possibly sending it to themselves but accidentally sent it to your address?

I can't see it as a virus sending it, unless the sender had you in their address book?

Strange...

Yah it is strange. I wonder how gmail determines what is Spam, like since it automatically put the email in to my spam folder, does that mean that Gmail "knows" that email address is fraudulent? I don't know the email address and I have never corresponded with it before so I know I'm not in this person's address book. Could have been just a honest mistake though.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Could be any number of things. Sometimes spammers send out nonsense text just to see what emails are delivered and then opened. that way they know they've hit a valid, active address.

Best move is to delete those without opening. At this point, your email has probably been sold as "valid" to some block of spammers.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.
