Dugway Proving Ground -- The New Groom Lake?

So if Dugway is the new Area 51 then why all the ongoing construction at Groome not to mention the guards being way more testy than they have been in years!!!!!

Sure I know me and my friends have pissed them off more than a few times and the Sheriff has been called out on us for firing guns along Groome Lake Rd and launchng off huge mortar round fireworks but not even the sheriff had much luck catching us as we disappear in different directions on Dirt Bikes.

Trust me people unless you fire directly at the Cammo Dudes they have no authorazation to shoot just to hold and detain till the regular authorities arrive that is unless Nellis sends out the Military police then yea your screwed they will shoot no questions asked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also live about 30 miles from Dugway and I drove out there a week ago. I have been reading this string and there are a couple of things that seem to have been forgotten. First, there has been plenty of talk about how open things are in the town of Dugway, which is inside the base area. Of course, there are 1000s of personnel and civilian support and contractors living there. There has to be some level of normalcy. That being said, bear in mind that the base covers nearly 800,000 acres! Look it up on Google Maps. Find the town of Dugway and then scan West, Northwest and Southwest. There are small installations all over the desert with nondescript buildings and areas cleared of vegitation. There is A LOT of land out there to hide most anything.

Only a week ago a friend and I drove out to Dugway just to see what was there. Once we reached the main gate we turned South onto a dirt road and explored various dirt roads in the area. For the first while we could see an SUV shadowing us off in the distance. It was about 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile away and shadowed our every move for about 30 minutes until we went further South away from the base perimiter. Then we never saw it again.

Lately I've seen the helicopters mentioned above a lot. Usually we see 1-4 Blackhawks fly VERY low over Tooele, but I have also seen flights of 1-3 Apache helicopters too.

While Dugway may not be the new Area 51, it most definitely is one of the most secretive bases in the US. Its remote location is perfect for keeping things secretive. Having lived in Utah most of my life I have seen little things that are hard to ignore. For years the local TV weather radar had big holes over the area. Other times on completely clear, sunny days there would be large radar "clouds" over the area that would suddenly apear and then disapear within an hour or two. Each time the weatherman would say "We're not sure what that is appearing near Dugway. The military must be up to something."

I have also heard stories about installations being built to the South of Wendover, Nevada which is West of Dugway and also very, very remote. There are stories of a 17 story building underground out there. I'm curious of anyone else has heard such tales.

As for reasons the previous Utah oversight board was disbanded, it is most likely because there were a lot of people sitting around doing not much while pulling in large paychecks. As a current government employee I see this happen daily, and the programs these people are being paid to manage are completely void of accountability and typically produce little to no results. In other words, they are too lazy to submit the reports, are not held acountable when they do not submit the reports, and eventually are the first agencies/offices to get the axe when budget cuts become the topic of the day.

A few weeks ago I was driving down SR 199 leaving dugway it was about 1230 in the afternoon when I noticed a few strange vehicles heading my way. As they got closer I saw red and blue flashing lights on the vehicles. I saw 3 Black Chevy Suburbans totally blacked out windows traveling about 65 MPH escorting an all black Semi with 3 more Suburbans behind it with red and blue lights flashing. On both side of the semi about 300 feet off the ground where to black apache helicopters. All heading to Dugway! As they got about 1/2 mile away from me the lead chevy pulled away from the group and pulled out driving half in my lane. The lead vehicle slowed as is passed me where I could see that the rear driver side window was down and as they passed I saw what looked to be 4 people inside wearing all black with faces covered with weapons. The chevy had a really different siren I later found out is called a rumbler siren (Search google video) As the Semi got to where it was going to pass me the first chevy behind the semi pulled out and along side the semi. At this time a was kind a freaking out because I didnt pull my car totaly off the road, I was still int the lane a little and had the chevy headed right for me. The chevy hit the brakes hard and pulled back behind the semi. After they had all pased a could help myself but turn around in my seat and look back. Then thats when I relized that the whole time an apache was locked on to my car. When I looked back I saw the apache turn back around to the west as if it followed me as they passed. It was awesome I have never seen anything like it.

i have snuck over the fence on several occasions and observed the deep range from INSIDE the perimiter. I have never had a black helicopter challege our presense. I've never even seen guard details near the border. Maybe we were just lucky. I DEFIATELY would not like to have been caught on the other side...

also google earth displayed what appears to be the X47A aircraft stationed at dugway. So basically the most exotic and stealthy crafts that we have are being test flown at dugway, NOT Area51...

also to anyone who ventures out into the area...in general we didnt see much. But we did see what appeared to be a airplane flying straight towards us, then stopped in mid air and shot immediatly in reverse at a astounding speed. This was right over the Dugway/Michaels Range. I think the real stuff is below The salt Lake to the east of Hills AFB... Some of the things we have seen hovering over the island were mindblowing... I personally think they launch from beneather the salt lake ...but thats just a paranoid theory of mine.

And the point?

I would have thought that to test, maintain, adapt and fly all of these aircraft would require more than one 'secret' base - logistics of transport and housing of specialists alone would predicate that.

So, maybe everyone is right - how about Area 51 (plus?) for the really esoteric craft, Dugway (or whereever) for unmanned X projects, and yet another base or bases for the development of testing of (future) marketable military aircraft?

Area 51 isnt what it used to be.

Actually from montanna down to las vegas is a string of massive bases all used together, Area 51 is just the most popular, Michaels is hidden in google earth for a purpose with a whiteout runway.. all these bases are used for what area 51 is known for.

Michaels AFB used to be controlled by the Army and is not new... Just rebuilt better...

its a place where aurora could be stored. x-33 has/is tested there

Michaels AFB is in the middle of Chemicaly poluted desert, no one in their right mind would make it out that far to observe. Wendover Airfield has been resurfaced as well, a old SR-71 refueling and staging base. when i was a kid wendover base was abandon, but not anymore...

all those circles and square grids in the desert are sensor grids that tested the dispersion of biological and chemical warfare elements over the years.. would you walk through that to spy on a base?

it is indeed a place where new projects are being tested, thats why on a regular basis you see stuff that looks like UFO's above Skull Valley. as a child my father took me rabbit hunting all around Dugway and Hill Electronic Testing Range.

north of base is a chemical weapons disposal facility. ironicly when they burn chemical weapons the smoke flows right into Salt Lake Valley, they post burns in the legal section of the newspaper, a week after that Flu outbreaks happen...

in the 80's i was on Mount Olympus in Saly Lake City camping, we saw the entire Horizon Flash Blue 2 times, you can see over 2 mountain ranges from Olympus. after the horizon lit up we heard a noise that sounded like someone blowing in PVC pipe like a tuba... it was so disturbing we walked 2 hours down the mountain in the dark, in fear that we got Nuked, when we got home we were sure we would see this on CNN or a EMS Alert atlest, Nothing at all, just scared the crap out of us. the blue light resembled the type of light you see from welding, except it was 100's of miles accross when it flashed...

worked on base before in the 80's for 2 weeks using a hydrogen sensor to find unexploded ordenance in the ground from bombing tests under university of utah as a student.

im convinced that kenecott coppermine is a entrance to a underground base that is linked to Dugway, the mountain is to secure for just a mine...

i was told there were sensors in the dirt around the chemical wepons storage that could smell you, if you jump the fence there your done...

that cow fence is out in the polluted areas, the main fence is chainlink and closer to tooele. i wouldnt mess around out there, you'll end up with cancer tumors...

cause the whole Oaker Mountain from the smelter to Provo is so Secure, the army base is down by point of the mountain, near the Pit... ive gone rabbit hunting in a abandon gravel pit out there, just beyond it was Uber security, unmarked vehicle patrols...

it would be natural to use one of the biggeset man made holes to make a shelter/facility..

you can see a entrance in the bottom that you can drive into.

Had a semi-interesting experience driving out that way today. The wife and I saw a rather huge dustdevil, the biggest I'd ever seen, just within the borders of the grounds. Didn't think much of it, but we also encountered a gentleman, wearing a t-shirt that just said "ARMY" on it, whom looked slightly shaken.

We got to talking about the dust devil and he mentioned that he was taking pictures of some of the signs of the Tooele Chemical Depot (just a quick shot over the mountain to it) and he was converged upon by about five or so unmarked cars. Apparently, they checked his cameras and told him to move along, which he gladly complied. Beyond that, it's not uncommon for the wife and I to see cattle corpses that looked like they had literally exploded or had been dropped from a distance of some sort.

All in all, I'm not sure this bares any sort of mention or not, but it was a little strange they'd converge on this gentleman for taking pictures of some signs.

i know what you mean about the cattle corpses around dugway, they seem like they are everywhere and look all broken up.

I don't know, specifically, what they test at Dugway, but I do have some information that might shed some light on the subject. My stepfather is a retired US Army officer who was attached to TEXCOM, which later became OTC (Operational Test Command). I know that he worked, primarily, on laser guidance and targeting. He was involved in both the "Evil Eye" targeting systems used on Apaches and the Miles systems back in the 1980s.

When I was in highschool, he use to go on trips to Dugway at least twice a year. Later, after I had moved out, my mother told me he started going up there more often. Sometimes, he would be gone for a week or two, other times, for over a month. He never could talk about what he was doing up there, but it must have had something to do with lasers at that was his specialty.

I do know, though, that the main headquarters for his division was at Fort Hood, Texas.

I really wonder if they still are conducting nerve gas tests....(of course, not on humans), but in general.

I have the eQuake add-on for firefox and as i went online a few minutes ago it showed me an 3.1 earthquake near Dugway Proving Ground.

The debt of the quake is just 0.4 km or ~0.2mile.
