Also as far as music goes you can turn on the radio and listen to it free.

Also for TV shows you can turn on the TV and watch it free, and technically
its legal to DVR the TV show.

But if you download it then its illegal supposedly !

LOL

I think is mostly due to the fact that the commercials are gone in the downloaded version.

It should be free, if I find it on some site it's not my fault it's there for download as long as I can download it.
It should be restricted, not available, password protected I don't know, but as long as it is click the link and download then I don't see the problem.

That is honestly a lame argument...

If that was justifiable, anybody could use that as an argument.

"Oh, I found some child pornography on some site, it's not my fault it's there for download as long as I can download it."

I guess you decided to use another lame argument to make your point.

Let em explain.

child porn = illegal to exist in any form at all

mp3 music = some exists free at lower quality, some is totally free, some is not free, but all legal to exist.

The original poster was referring to music that is illegal to download. He states it's not his fault he can download it, so long as it's there to download.

That's not an argument you can use.

umm so im im getting this correct the usa is gonna start seizeing international domain names? i dont see that flying and i dont see china giveing two squirts about anything the usa tells them they can or cant do so i forsee that being a pretty big problem some of the european countries might go for it but not all of them i see this as a measure that will fail and realy have no teeeth that will just incourage china to keep illegaly copying all the things they do

if i was wrong and the usa is just gonna prevent access INSIDE the USA i see that working but there being a huge backlash against isp's and whatnot but the second therory is problay more likely? am i flat wrong on this please correct me if im wrong

I'm with you here. It's really going to suck when CHINA provides more freedom to Americans than America does, isn't it?

Remember the days of "radio Free America", where America was sending uncensored (by the local governments) news and other programming into Eastern Europe, giving them another opinion? looks like America may have that coming to a theater near them before long.

Here's the scenario: China sets up their own little internet section expressly for "informing" Americans as to the "real" events they aren't being made aware of because of 'net censorship, governmental domain name theft, etc. They punch a special hole through the Great Firewall just for that purpose, Chinese produced software to run the whole show. Access is provided through proxies run in neutral (and probably some not so neutral) countries to re-route the traffic around censorship blocks. Everything, from the data packets to the destination IP, is encrypted end to end, from the user's computer (before it even hits his local ISP), through all the nodes, to the "Internet Free America" servers on China. That much is done already - it's how you bypass the Great Firewall going the other way.

The draw? Free "pirated" entertainment, software, etc. That brings the traffic in (like the music broadcast on Radio Free Europe), but the Chinese slip in some "special" payloads of their own, either software or information - or more likely both.

What a kick in the ass that would be - to have China "free" Americans who wouldn't get off their asses to save themselves.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

No commercials if you record off of a movie channel or PPV.

If you have a DVD burner you can then record it to DVD or even blue ray.

Nevertheless, I completely agree with what you said in this post. I have mentioned this before and never gotten an honest answer as to why that is okay. Good luck on a response to your post.

Star for you though.

Well, in all of the cases that went to court (Seriously. I looked. At both of them.) The defendant also uploaded. IIRC Correctly Tenebaum was sued with the "Long list" and Thomas-Rasset with the "Short List" (There are 2 different sets of songs you can get sued for)
So obviously, you do not infringe on anybodys copyright when you simply have something. CR is the exklusive right to distribute. So, yeah, how you got your copy? Non of anybodys business.

Edit to add another question to Mobius (Don't need to answer the one about theft. It is obvious that you don't)
Do you know what forgery is?

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!! (sorry for caps)

be competitive!!! Offer your "media" at 10 times the download speed as pirated versions.

I bet a million bucks, people would pay for "time".

Reply if you feel my solution is perfect.

your idea is not good, because you dont know how internet really works

the speed of the download depends on the user ISP plan and the "uploader's" speed, but really, since there are a lot of people with the same file, its easy to reach very good speeds

what would really solve the problem is competitive price

IMO I would wonder what would happen if bands would make thousands of home made discs and burn a label on it (art) or even got a real label maker and put photos and extras on if it could fit. Then sold them at concerts for $4-5 and to radio stations as prizes. We can make CDs of our fav music for very cheap and so can they, I would rather pay them directly. The artists and system were screwed ever since payola en.wikipedia.org... .

Many groups that should be on the radio are not even when the music fits, no one at the local alternative radio station knew or even cares to know who VNV Nation are and will not even hook the computer up and play it off youtube.

Something that will really make you think is, it there was a machine that could turn waste into whatever product you want were made, including another machine like it, food, building materials, medicin, who would pay for the stuff and who would get the money? If any one did pay, what would the one who got paid spend the money on?

You are completely ignorant to how artists really make their money. They make is through mostly merchandise and ticket sales. They get a minimum from record sales. Radio play and constant tours wins the bread, not sitting at home raking in record sales. Don't talk about musicians and the music business, you don't know what you're talking about.

lmfao... I guarantee I have more "inside" knowledge of where their actual profit comes from.. You have read way to many opinion posts and absorbed way to much incorrect information. Cd sales is a good portion of their revenue... Do you even know what is made on merch? Do you know the percentage made from ringtones and other creative marketing? All you know is.. You like stealing and will do anything to justify this.. I dont care about your opinion, nor did I ask for it. I am good friends with memebers of an accomplished band.. and am also friends with an "up and coming" band... I have talked in depth with both of them about this.. Illegal downloading affects each differently.. The accomplished band is seeing a very large loss in revenue due to illegal downloads.. Now the up and coming band still makes the majority of their money from bookings and merch.(they actually benefit from the downloads).. BUT... they agree that one day, if something isn't done about it, they will have to rethink releasing another CD..Both of these bands look at their CD's as a total loss...

Everyone uses the same analogies and same excuses... Why not, its not your product that is being received for free...

I always thought artists got paid up front by the label.

Are you referring to a speculation style of anger that is obtained when money that has not been gained yet is lost? That even though a lot of money has already made that the missed opportunity to make even more upsets you??

Is that what you are talking about? Speculation is one of my most hated things in economics.

EDIT:
Up front as in they record the tracks and get paid for doing so.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that there are some comments about piracy leading to bands not getting the money they deserve. How much revenue is generated from playing concerts, selling band merch, gigs of all sorts, etc.? If you play good music, you will get your share of profit.

Whatever happened to music being genuinely about creative expression? Now "artists" go into the industry with $ on their mind and not giving a rat's ass if they make true art. It's a shame!

Interesting, I really have never looked at the cases that went to court. I assume though that those who are targeted most are those who “share”. Yeah I figured that the downloader has upset them but it seems as if those who are providing the download would make them the most upset.

After all, without the uploader/sharer there cannot be a downloader. But that can be said about many illegal activities that are viewed as victimless by just as many that see a victim in the activity.

Regardless, if a friend has the music, movie or whatever I can always get a copy from them, there is always someone with a copy to some music you may have to ask around a bit more for some though.

If they make and sell their cd's they get all the money not just a percentage I even think people would pay 10 bucks for a bands cd if they made it themselves

Its already illegal to do this stuff anyway and nobody has a problem getting around it now. Criminals are always two steps ahead of the law and it will always be that way.
