Well, what I think we'll see to start taking the place of "Free" download sites are sites that will still offer "free" software, movies and music, which in actuality will be paid for by advertising...as well as be paid for through the use of data mining intrusive software additives such as spyware and malware (which is what these "pirate" sites are doing anyway).

But there's no doubt about it, this world is fast becomming the fleece and poach fishbowl the rich and wealthy always wanted.

Wonder how long it will last? and Not really looking forward to watching how far they'll be willing to go with the poach qand fleece operations...

The implementation of this bill will be a huge waste of taxpayer money. What is the US Government going to do if the countries don't honor the subpoena? Bomb them?

Who the hell needs these Trillions of hours of "free entertainment" anyway. Some people already spend 24/7 in front of a screen for "free" games, "free movies", free info, free this, free that. I think society is satiated and doesnt want everything for free.

I think most of the people here are missing the point. Truth you said it best by posting the Manifesto I was going to go looking for it for the same reason. If not for the hackers and porn technology would not be where it is at today. ANY type of filtering on the Net should not be supported. And yes I am one of the people that do use torrents and I do not see any difference between my using my DVR to record Sons of Anarchy or waiting a day and downloading it.

As far as software goes what are the big boys going to do like Adobe as more people decide paying 500 dollars for software when they can use Gimp. Or M$ and Open Office. Are they going to start crying about that also. This is about technology, and allowing governments into areas they should not be in.

I remind you of the trojan picture frames. The trojan was in the microchip. Do you really think a pirate created a microchip and put a trojan in it then secretly put it in picture frames and sold it through walmart. Or how about the begining of the Iraq war the DOD sent popup screens to the computers of Iraqis they thought would turn against Saddam. And thats just two examples.

I'm a musician(play bass and sing/growl/scream) and have always believed that music is just one of those things that is natural and shouldn't be charged for. there are plenty of bands that give their music away for free and make all their money off of doing shows and selling merchandise...where's the problem in this? why does every band feel that they need a greedy record company to have their hands in their pockets and only giving them a small %? thats bull# and everyone knows it. now if you'll excuse me i have some freshly made music to give out for free^.^

My point is they are not loosing money from there movies and songs.
The people who download them are to poor to buy there over priced music and movies.
Do you think its the rich and wealthy downloading crap?

No, it's because the younger generation have more skills using computers and the younger ones knows how to pirate games and music. The older people have no clue and would never pirate because they can't do it .

I agree with your comment. I just want to say that why the U.S is more concerned about big corps cries then the middle class?

I paid for a server motherboard from china. This guy I verified I checked his finance records and business registration all perfectly legal in china yet he took my money and ran with it. I reported it to the FBI and it's so far been 4 years. Never heard a dam thing about it.

So let me get this straight it's ok for middle class people to be victims and small businesses to be unprotected and yet it's ok for the rich to be protected to the full extent.

I own 2 websites and I have so far had my domain name hijacked 5 times. Each time I had to fill out papers etc....etc in order words a very long process. I took 1 year to get my domain name back. These hyjackings would be from outside the U.S.

I am pretty sure if microsoft.com got hyjacked this would be taken care of in 20 min. Why is that???

a lot of people are missing the point of why its illegal and just shouting about why file sharing shouldnt band.

file sharing in general ISNT illegal...if what you are sharing is not protected by copyright laws.

however...when a band writes, records and produces a record...it goes on sale for them to make some money by the public buying that record...however fred goes and buys the record (or records it from somewhere else) and puts it online where thousands of people who would have normally paid for it...are now getting it free...and the artists who make it lose millions...the same goes for movies.

and THATS what is illegal.

thats my understanding of it but it doesnt stop me doing it...i dont consider it stealing like i would someone taking products from a stores shelves...because its basically being offerd to me for free and i can take it from the comfort of my own home.

to be honest i dont consider the people who download OR the people who put things online in the first place criminals...its a very hard one to comment on and the solution isnt clear
