Football tackling is violent in a way that both sides understand before they go in. They go in thinking "we will win" and they are willing and prepared for that violence.

Warfare is when a big bully attacks an unprepared country.

That is the difference.

I'm pretty sure countries go into war and people get into fights believing that they "will win." Otherwise they wouldn't. If you condemn video games for violence then you should also condemn sports, all entertainment- be it television, movies, music, and the worst - your news channels.

Fallacy here.

Sport is positive.

Warfare is negative.

Violent vids are negative.

If you embrace the negative, you get the negative.

If you embrace the positive, you get the positive.

So what happens if I want to embrace it all in a big bear hug of crazy? Does it matter? You cut out all the negative and you are left with nothing but gumdrops and kittens. Good luck surviving there.

I will be fine with warm woollen mittens on kittens.

And brown paper packages tied up with string.

Yes sports are important, the cat who knows is right once again....though I wouldn't consider golf a sport more like a passtime or something for old people like bingo....and also the only rule me and my friends had in any sports we played is "no blood no foul" exempt when we fought then it was "not in the balls"
It sucks to be older no one wants to play no more.

The question can be looked at on two levels.

The Greeks tell us that to be athletic is to be divine. You know, healthy body and healthy mind and all that. So when you participate yourself it can be good.

The Romans, however, realized that they could appease the mob by providing them with a spectacle. So, it can be used as a tool of control.

Personally, I like playing and watching sports.

Playing sports is a good way to exercise. Watching it on TV is a good way to develop a beer belly.

So it's still yin yang, let the reader decide.

And lastly, a true sportsman is a "sport", i.e. he or she would follow the rules of the game and always stay calm and composed - never to let anarchy or unsportsmanlike behavior to surface.
