I wonder if Kathleen Sebelius has heard about this. She warned insurers not to say the new health care bill is driving up costs. She may just come in and take over the industry if they do not keep their mouths shut. Do not think she has the power? What do you think that financial bill was for? You know, seizure of business if there is a systemic problem.

Here is the article-Health Insurers Seeking Rate Hikes Of More Than 20 Percent In Connecticut

A snippet-

Health insurers are asking for immediate rate hikes of more than 20 percent in Connecticut for some plans, citing rising medical costs and federal health reform laws as reasons.

Both issues — the new federal health care reform and rising medical costs — are significant drivers of the increases, according to filings by insurers with state regulators that were reviewed by The Courant.

It remains to be seen how much of the requests will be approved. Many people might not see an increase before Jan. 1, and these proposed changes would largely affect new business, mostly in the individual market.

But the overall price shift is the clearest indicator yet of what customers and employers can expect when health insurers submit proposed 2011 rates in late October and November. The current round of price requests launches a clash between insurers who say the increases are justified and consumer advocates and government officials who say the numbers are wildly inflated.

Oh well, didn't someone say that the rates would not go up? Oh, that was before he said it would.
You know the old saying, well I said they would not go up, before I said they would. You know, the old Barry Obama two step. Lie first and then tell everyone you lied.

See, I have figured out the whole HOPE and CHANGE mantra. Tell me if it makes sense to you.

He gives you HOPE and then brings Change. Kinda sneaky huh?

My opening statement on Sebelius. If you are wondering what I mean. Check this thread out where she threatens insurance companies not to do exactly what these ones are doing. TELLING THE TRUTH!

Kathleen Sebelius threatening to put insurers out of business?

Is about to get worst, because our corporate ridden government strip the Obamacare from health care cost regulations, because it was no good for capitalism.

Let the gouging begin, after all Obama care is mandatory.

Well, the problem of costs are systemically connected to the government.

We have what is called a socialist health care system by proxy. No one can be turned away, so those that cannot afford it get there care for free and the rest of us have to make up the difference.

Add in the control that the government puts on costs for medicare and medicaid patients, where they will only pay a certain amount, you get another cost that is put on the one's that do pay.

This is what is driving up the costs. Besides several other components like the gouging of insurance companies. Now, one of the only things that makes me upset with the commerce clauses, is that health insurance SHOULD be able to be traded across state borders.

The ORIGINAL INTENT of that clause was to make trade regular or even, but they do not do that for insurance, WHY?

Thanks for the comment marg.

people seem to miss the point that people can go for decades without needing to go see a doctor paid by us

and the age 26 insurance clause in one of the things that pisses me off the most a large percentage of those people dont even need it til much later in life not to mentional the illegal compent of all this.

all that is footed by us

not to mention that it has driven costs up and it will drive up the deficit spending....

obama and pelosi and the morons who passed know KNOW it will end up like medicare, medicaid and social security.

the big 3 of the social experiments that have totally failed and failed miserably.

ever single liberal program is not even close to be self sustaining and thus the care provided will not even be close to what private healthcare can and does do.

i wasnt one of those people who catered to the supposed "death panels" but one dude calling all the shots some people will be murdered because of it and it is murder because all of that was done with planning and intent.

people still hate on corporations but they are nothing compared to the us government and its neverending expansion because liberals want to play god.

being forced to buy insurance and being penalized is the biggest thing of all this that pisses me off most.

the government has no right to do so never has it ever had that power but it does now it needs to be repelled and every single democrat who voted for that law needs impeached.

i have worked since i was 16 and every single jobs i have ever had ive had insurance and if a employer didnt have it there are other options we have to get it.

for someone trying to get buy in life and in this economy that added cost that they now have to pay out because of that law can and will bankrupt and put more people in poverty.

i am so sick of the obama defenders.

I imagine that one of the things that is driving the cost up is the number of unemployed people out there...
they lose their insurance along with their job (after all who can afford the cobra payments when you can't even afford the groceries you need!) ... more uninsured, less people donating to the ponzi scheme called health inurance...less people donating in, well, those who are still donating have to donate more to keep the thing solvent....

Yes the regulations were taken off before the passing of the bill I used to have the link on my favorites but after cleaning and organizing the links I deleted the folder I had with the Obama care.

But In many of the threads after the Obama care was passed those links were in them when we spend months dissecting the bill here in ATS.

Anybody that followed the bill to its completion and the week after the passing when Obama extended Medicaid to make it the "public option" for the poor knows about why regulations were no included.

I never said it wasn't the only contributor to the raise in costs, but I bet the unemployment is just as much a major contributor as the "pre existing conditions" ....included in the healthcare bill!!!

and well.....we would probably all end up paying for those "pre existing conditions anyways"...and possibly more..
since the person needing the care probably can't cover the expense without being covered by either a gov't program, insurance, or charity program....
and, ya know what......
I do know of instances where the family has broken up...mom and kids live without daddy, daddy pays a portion of his paycheck to child support, women gets much more in benefits than hubby's contribution.....thus more money from taxpayers pockets than if we just helped out with the wife's or child's "pre existing condition"!!!

I not a fan of obama care...all it seemed to do was make a hostage customer base for the insurance companies...without any pressure from the gov't for those insurance companies, or medical care providers get the cost of their services down to something that the average person can handle! probably just a nice big bailout to the insurance companies that was called by another name, simply because we americans are getting fed up with the word "bailout"!!

I found the links to the protection agency that Obama created after the HCR was passed is called Federal oversight of insurance increases.

Now because this was not part of the bill the agency doesn't have full powers, yes it can question insurers about gouging practices but it needs the states in question like Connecticut to agree with the Federal inquiries in order to have the courts deal with it.

Now Obama has been bribing states to be compliant in the names of grants to help with the health care cost.

Now taking into consideration that lobbyist for the health insurance companies are also funneling money to states is going to be many states that will not question the gouging by the insurance companies.

Remember Insurance companies are here to make money no to lose money.
