How long will the "war on terror" realistically last?

Topic started on 22-6-2004 @ 09:41 PM by ThunderCloud

The "Cold War" between the US & USSR took 45 years -- roughly from 1945 - 1990. The "War on Terror", which started in 2001 between Muslim fundamentalists and the US (and its allies, I presume?), will take HOW long, realistically? I'm in my late 20's, and I hope we're not still fighting the "War on Terror" when I'm an old, retired man...

Or, at the very least, when will things settle down a bit and make this into another "cold war" for awhile? I'm not sure my job hunt and my nerves could take decades of what the world has gone through from 2001 - 2004...

the war on terror as they call it, is more of a war on religion because the terrorists are radical muslims who believe the US are persecuting muslims and supporting israel. when was the last time a religious war ended quickly?
