They're all a cancer to this country.

I think you mean how the media portrays the Tea Party
The Tea Party is also not only conservatives, it's also liberals and independants.

How the media portrays the Tea Party is not how they actually are, perhaps you should go to a tea party rally before saying that!

You may post pictures of racist picket signs from Tea parties if you wish, which is the only images taken as opposed to non-racist "sticking on the issues" signs that made the large majority.

Most liberals and independents I know would not be caught dead endorsing the Tea Party.

As I said, they're ALL a cancer: Liberals, Conservatives and everything in-between.

I think that we all need to move past labels and niches and look at the big picture.

But, you're free to continue living in that comfortable box you've made for yourself, where only liberals are evil. Did you spend hours watching Fox News/Beck/Rush/Hannity?

No, it's guys like you that demonize people that think differently than you that are polarizing the nation.

Which does or does not exclude the actions and words of the administration? You point your finger towards others but protect the very same type of people from your line of convictions. Yet they are just as guilty as say the OP, me or you in pushing those convictions with vigor and passion. Its just you like to shield and then try to deflect back unto while cleansing those that agree with you.

Right or left, the unwillingness to compromise and seek realistic solutions seems to be a thing of the past.
Absolutely somewhat correct. But what are realistic solutions? I say we don't need tax cuts and a massive reduction of government, yet you might say otherwise...which one is the realistic solution?

Also, please note that compromises within government are not always good....look at one of the first compromises we, as a nation ever had...the 3/5th's Clause....and ugly was it ever.

The Republicans in Congress have publicly stated their only goal is to oppose everything the Obama administration proposes.[/quote[

It is not the duty of Congress to follow the president's ideas and goals that he hopes for. The president is not head of Congress and only can persuade the people from the bully pulpit to pressure their congressmen and senators to act upon his ideas.

When has the majority of people become so ignorant into what a president is there for?
This is not solely for you, as I believe you have a grasp on a president's duties...
US Constitution: Article II (The one that outlines what a president's responsibilties are:

A few points from there....is under the wisdom of the writers of the Constitution as to not give any branch too much power, there is a lot of words such as: 'their [congress'] consideration and 'and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate'.

He is our head of state and our chief diplomat. Just a man, leading a people that voted for him. Leading is the key word, and sometimes, not everyone will approve of the direction a leader is taking.

Stop whining about Socialism. You don't even know what it is.

Agree with you on that point, this is more soft-socialism in which there is pseudo social programs under the guise that is what a free people want.

From your stance, everyone should just stop questioning him and allow his ideas to move forward without consideration. Sorry, that is not how it works nor should it ever work that way.

They are not the exact same and I never said they were, but if you are looking for a close comparison that is your closest comparison. They were Moderates at the time, Conservative was never their label. 1968 when Nixon used the Southern Strategy to secure the disaffected Southern white voters that is when the Republican Party became Conservatives.

If you look at the facts even though the Democrats spend heavily the Federal Deficit for Obama's first Fiscal Year is down 8%. While the establishment Democrats may support imperialism and war, the grassroots and Progressives oppose it much like Taft and Eisenhower.

You fail to remember that before 1950's the Republican Party was the home of Progressivism, Protectionism and Liberalism. Robert M. La Follett, Sr. (As seen in my picture) was a Republican Senator from Wisconsin and 1924 Presidential Candidate under the Progressive Party (Bull-Moose Party) founded by none other than Republican President Theodore Roosevelt.

Dwight D. Eisenhower was a strict Centrists who brought both sides together at a time when Libertarian Republicans were angry with the Democrats. Obama is definitely no Dwight D. Eisenhower, but he is also no Franklin D. Roosevelt either. Obama is a Center-left politician, Bill Clinton was a Center Politician.

I categorize each block into groups. You have Left-wing, Left, Center-left, Center, Center-right, Right, Right-wing. This will help you understand.

Left-wing: Social Democrat (Dennis Kucinich, Franklin D. Roosevelt)
Left: Liberal, Progressive (Howard Dean, John F. Kennedy)
Center-left: Moderate (Barack Obama, Lyndon B. Johnson)
Center: Centrist, Third Way (Bill Clinton, Dwight D. Eisenhower)
Center-right: Liberal Conservative (Olympia Snowe, Richard Nixon)
Right: Neoconservative, Social Conservative (Mike Huckabee, Ronald Reagan)
Right-wing: National Conservative (Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich)

Does that help you with the picture? Or maybe this will help.

In this same thread, in the OP in fact I called Beck a double agent
In this same thread I called Rush a double agent.

Wow!
Nice sticking on the issues there!

Hi Blaine, I'll answer your questions in order.

#1. I did not vote. You had two choices, a Democrat with Bush policies or a Republican with Bush policies and with a VP that remains very dangerous to this country's future.

#2. Nope, I want equality for all. Not sure I see the point in your smartypants response to that.

#3. I'm for restricting gun access. It's far too easy to get a hold of any firearm and IMO, that's a threat to this country. However, it's far too late for any change and I accept that.

#4. Yes, most Americans do care. This is about human rights. You don't agree with the idea of two men or two men getting married? Then you're a bigot. Not you, but I mean in general.

#5. Afghanistan? You agree with it? The supposed hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Also, no other empire could defeat the enemies in Afghanistan. We're no different.

#6. Yes, there are alternatives to oil. Google it.

#7. Yes, Liberals do care about the progress of the country. Modern day Conservatives however seem to want to bitch and moan until someone they like is in office. Then in their minds, America is saved.

Both parties are corrupt. I said it before, a true Liberal needs to step in power.

Do the lables really matter? they all take money from the same multinational companies and special intrests and yet the public eats up both parties BS. Take this forum for instance it's called political madness for a reason.I think biggest reason we can't move forward is because it would mean for a lot of people to admit that our politcal system is the biggest farce in the world and that would make the old line about us having the "greatest system in the world." be the total lie that it really is.

I don't really like to categorize politicians because they swing with whoever is funding them. I like to evaluate voters and what politicians say.

No it's not because a non-white is in power but because of the liberal agenda.

Actually the division is being created by fear mongering primarily on the Republican side. We have crazy people spreading insane rumors about Obama being a sleeper cell terror Muslim anti-Christ who wants to kill your grandma with a death panel and on the other side we have Democrats who, although they hold a super-majority, are essentially impotent when it comes to making actual progress. Democrats have become too timid to push any policies but that doesn't stop propagandists from singing their siren song of stupidity about how progressives and liberals will kill us all. Not saying there aren't shrill voices of partisan BS on the Liberal side, because there definitely are.

All I see coming from the left is partisan bickering

You seem equally intent on division as all I've seen from YOU in this thread is partisan bickering. The partisan bickering is a two way street in this false political dichotomy. Those few voices of reason seemed drowned out by the constant left-right fight. Don't pretend for a second that between Glenn Beck, Fox News and the Tea Parties that there aren't people on the right trying to divide us.

I don't know if the left drinks a different type of kool-aid or something

You want the partisan bickering to stop, it starts with YOU. Both sides have swallowed the kool-aid and so have you because this entire thread is all about how much you want to bash the left and only the left. Want both sides to start working together, stop treating them as opposites. It's a false dichotomy and we've all got to break out of it. Unfortunately every time a movement starts to break partisan boundaries the propagandists on either side attempt to move in like vultures. Just look what happened to the tea party. What started as a primarily libertarian grass-roots movement that was meant to appeal to all Americans became a Republican propagandist's wet dream - the movement was hi-jacked.

I don't think posting a thread called: The Left and Progressives are Becoming A Cancer Of This Nation is a good way to bridge the gap or help heal the division created by partisan bickering. To quote a popular internet meme, you're doing it wrong

Just to think that this is only like, around 20+ Americans getting into a big argument. Imagine the entire population getting in on this discussion, goddamn.

There's a reason why your country is going to crap and that's because any person you vote for, whether liberal or conservative, has the same agenda whether they're consciously aware of their actions, or inaction, as the case may be.

Really, I thought the past decade taught you all a valuable lesson, that politicians cannot be trusted, and they're willing to sell your country out to corporate entities. The American dream has turned into a nightmare, and if you wish to continue with the nightmare, keep voting for anyone that runs for president. I really don't know the first thing about politics, but common sense has shown me that all political arguments are a waste of energy and every political belief you have means nothing when looking at the big picture.

My prediction is that the next president of the US will be a conservative, and all of the discussion will be "Man, we didn't know how lucky we were in an Obama run America". Man, these guys can't run your country and probably don't run it. It's all about the people in the background. It's already evident that the president is a puppet with prepared teleprompter speeches, fales promises, and they're the ones that get to be the nation's punching bag when things go to crap. The people in the background want to give you anothers' face as a substitute for their very own; the president is their mask.

Why does history have to repeat itself? Why do you all want change, yet think that voting is the only solution? What change do you even want, exactly?

Ask yourself those questions and you might be able to start changing things around you. None of you have closed minds, but some of your ideals are rather ignorant, to say the least. Not to say that I'm not ignorant, because I am highly ignorant, but at least I can admit it, and at least I will never fall for the void that is politics.

-sigh-

ok ops..heres the deal sparky.
Obama got into office under the various promises of reforming healthcare (check), ending the iraq war (check), sorting out afganistan somehow (TBD), closing gitmo (ooh, the republicans are too scared to bring em to new york..boo hoo..why cant Obama just ignore the right wing nuts...so currently not check), putting regulations back into wall street (check and continuing to grow).

You know what...for less than 2 years, not bad...not perfect, but for some dumb reason, the guy continues to try and work with the right, even when it was their actual statement that they will oppose obama on every single thing simply to make the presidency fail.

Get a grip...you lost...you LOOOST...

I remember when we invaded iraq, the left kept grumping about things like...oh...mindless bombing of brown people for no actual reason...and the right said the left was destroying America by questioning the president.

I remember I kept listening to the right lunatic fringe, trying to tone down the general anger at our power being so fragrantly abused in the name of being pro-america.

You know what...I hated America then...I hated it so bad I wished its fall..we were nothing more than a big bully with a small weener complex..If thats the right wing glory days, then you can take those glory days and shove it straight up your you know what.

The Dems are not good leaders..they spend too much, they allow for too much talk about things, they try to make everyone happy...but you know what...they are not good leaders, but the opposite is downright stupid and evil leadership...I will go with the bumbling fools verses the darth bubba approach.

So, take your wish for your theocratic anarchy and go to somewhere its more appreciated...like Somolia.

we seem to be more interested in doing whatever Fox News or CNN or MSNBC tell us to do than actually doing anything ourselves. But let me tell you. We best grow some backbone because if we don't...well...i really don't want to contemplate all that would entail. Its gotten far too heated along the lines of "red states" vs "blue States" or "muslim" vs "christian" or "Liberal" vs "Conservative". We're AMERICANS wherever we come from, whatever god we pray to, whatever political leaning we take. Those are our RIGHTS as AMERICANS, GUARANTEED to us by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and paid for by the blood of our fallen in wars stretching from the Revolutionary war to present day. We once fought a Civil War that cost us the lives of over a million american sons to keep our nation whole. We have come so far in our span. We began as the castoffs of the "Great European Powers" and surpassed them. Our ingenuity, our drive, our single minded belief that we were destined for greatness has drawn other "castoffs" to our shores.

"The New Colossus" is a sonnet by Emma Lazarus

""Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

We have LIVED that statement for over TWO HUNDRED YEARS. We have shed blood in its defense, we have grown, we have made mistakes and done great things in our span. Let us not sacrifice all that we have fought so hard for languish and be for naught. Let not our forefathers sacrifice of blood sweat and tears be swept away in a wave of fear and divisiveness. Together we stand as immovable as the Rocky Mountains, as implacable as the mighty missisipi river and as enduring as time itself. We are AMERICANS. All the Faux Patriotism, flag waving, and protesting means nothing if we do not stand up for the rights and freedoms we so loudly proclaim to hold dear. These freedoms are a package. They cannot be separated....they cannot be unbound. ALL or NOTHING. Protect EVERY right, EVERY ONES right or accept the fact that NO ONE has ANY rights. If you are willing to give up SOME of your rights for SOME of your people it is inevitable that ALL of your rights will be taken for ALL of your people. We must not allow fear and ignorance, political gambits and power plays to tear down our great nation. We owe it to our forefathers memory and our children and our childrens children.

Or, maybe it's because Obama is still a CIA shill.

Ever since:
Bush Sr (CIA & Bin Laden Pal/Carlyle Group, Saudi Sucka) was installed as Pres.
Bush (Dumb as a box of hammers) Jr ===> Doin' what daddy tells him to do (so, still CIA agenda).
Obama - CIA, Rise from Nowhere, locks down records ===> following Bush Sr's agenda.

maybe thats why "Nothing Will Change" policies are just as bad for the US people and things are going the same as the GOP years. Bush Jr and Obama seems to have the same Holiday Plan. No need to do much coz Bush Sr and co are doing for them.

Vote in your Independants.

The Republican Party of today is far more radical than I can even remember, even from my studies of American political history. The Democrats and Republicans weren't radically different before '64, most legislation had heavy bipartisan support.

The Democrats have become more Liberal, BUT NOT MORE SOCIALIST. If you looked closely you would see that in an American Political context that the two parties, prior to '09, looked a lot alike on the economy. If the Republicans weren't hell-bent of opposing anything that the Democrats touch then more than 70% of Obama's legislation would have more than 10 Republicans supporting it in the Senate and probably 50 supporting it in the House. The major dividing issue prior to '09 was the culture wars, that is why you hear Republicans use the word Elitist, it's a Culture War rallying cry.

To fight a culture war is simple minded nonsense, all you have to do is throw around some nationalistic and religious words and rail against academia and everything not "Average".

If you think the Democrats of today are Communists you would have thought the Republican Party of '63 was Communist as well and the Democrats would be off the left-wing charts. The Democrats of today ARE THE REPUBLICANS OF 50 YEARS AGO.

You know, I have sat and read though and contributed to the mud slinging, name calling, frustration of all topics pertaining to this administration. For the most part I have leaned more right than left on a lot of topics, I watch Fox news, I listen to Beck. I have come to the conclusion that all I personally want anymore is the truth. Simple truth. I am sick of posting negative comments about the left only to get 100 quotes with links supporting those quotes. I am sick of the right doing the same things. Just 1 time I would love for someone namely the current President of the United States to stand up hold a news conference and admit NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING. And currently as of right now nobody has a solid plan. As scary as that sounds I think that would humble me. Because for 1 time I would know without a doubt that I am hearing honesty. Nothing else has worked thus far, left right center, no solid plans have been made. How is anyone going to solve anything with spending 3/4 of their time bit**hing and complaining and running around making the other side look dirty? Like a bunch of Neanderthals both sides are watching the hand on the left when the one on the right is doin it's own thing. Focus your energy on the ones behind the scene's. That is where all the action is.
