TIME Poll: Majority Oppose Mosque, Many Distrust Muslims

According to a new TIME poll, 61% of respondents oppose the construction of the Park51/Cordoba House project, compared with 26% who support it. More than 70% concur with the premise that proceeding with the plan would be an insult to the victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Two-thirds of British people would support a ban on Muslim women wearing face-covering veils in public, similar to the one approved by French lawmakers this week, a poll has found.

Ah yeah, part of what the huffington post called the 'Texas Text Book Massacre' - well it made I laugh!

The New York Times had a full description of an earlier skirmish in the battle for the minds of the young titled: 'Texas Conservatives win Curriculum Change', reported by James C Mckinley jr.

McKinley reports that the voting was split along 'party lines' but what really caught my eye was a remark regarding Cythinia Dunbar, who is described as a strict constitutionist:

[She] managed to cut Thomas Jefferson from a list of figures whose writings inspired revolutions in the late 18th century and 19th century, replacing him with St. Thomas Aquinas, John Calvin and William Blackstone. (Jefferson is not well liked among conservatives on the board because he coined the term “separation between church and state.”)
www.nytimes.com...

So Jefferson who dared to suggest a 'building of a wall of seperation between church and state' is dropped and replaced with a French guy who offered the following:

I reply, there is no absurdity in the same person commanding and likewise obeying, when viewed in different relations. But this does not apply to the case of woman, who by nature (that is, by the ordinary law of God) is formed to obey; for γυναικοκρατία (the government of women) has always been regarded by all wise persons as a monstrous thing; and, therefore, so to speak, it will be a mingling of heaven and earth, if women usurp the right to teach. Accordingly, he bids them be “quiet,” that is, keep within their own rank. — “He therefore commands them to remain in silence; that is, to keep within their limits and the condition of their sex

Granted I have taken the passage slightly out of context; It is after all a commentry on 1 Timothy 2 (its in the bible), but he did use the phrase 'Government of Women'

Now maybe the Lady in question was misquoted or meant to reference a different John Calvin, But at least she is against those horrible muzzies, eh olin.

When America Feared and reviled Catholics

articles.latimes.com...

In the early 1900s, many Americans were genuinely frightened by the perceived religious threat of the Roman Catholic Church and the suspected imperialistic intentions of its leader, the pope. He was plotting the overthrow of the United States, warned the fearful, to "make America Catholic."

The holders of such beliefs were not just some fringe crazies safely outnumbered by their clear-eyed, religiously tolerant neighbors. To the contrary, widely popular, openly anti-Catholic literature spilled from newsstands across the country, newspapers like Sen. Tom Watson's Jeffersonian out of Atlanta and the Menace of Aurora, Mo., whose subscriptions dwarfed those of the largest newspapers in New York City and Chicago combined. Elections were won on promises to oust Catholics from positions of public trust. Only "true Americans" should hold such positions, went the warning, not Catholics who were loyal first to their religious leader in Rome.

A number of state legislatures were persuaded to take steps against the perceived threat as well, mirroring the anti-Catholic fear

Religious fear on this scale had fatal consequences. Eighty-nine years ago in Birmingham, Ala., in the midst of this simmering anti-Catholic atmosphere, Father James E. Coyle was brutally slain

They believed themselves patriots, upright fathers and sons, husbands and brothers protecting their families, and the nation, against a foreign threat they feared was intent on their destruction.

Convent in Boston Burned to the Ground by Anti-Catholic Rioters

The rioters were mostly poor Yankee laborers who feared and hated Irish Catholic immigrants. While some of Boston’s wealthiest Protestants sent their daughters to the Ursuline Academy, most Yankees harbored a deep prejudice against Catholics. Long suspicious of “popery,” Protestant Boston was receptive to the malicious rumors that swirled about the convent. The convent burning was a prelude to the fierce anti-Catholicism that would greet the famine Irish who flooded into Boston a decade later

KnowNothings

en.wikipedia.org...

The Know-Nothing movement was a nativist American political movement of the 1840s and 1850s. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants, who were often regarded as hostile to Anglo-Saxon values and controlled by the Pope in Rome.

A sampling of the terrorism unleashed in America by your idealogical ancestors...you are precisely what you claim to abhor.

On 4 July, at Manchester, N. H., St. Anne's church was attacked, its windows broken and furniture destroyed, the priest compelled to seek shelter away from his home, and the houses of Irish Catholics were likewise attacked, the inmates driven out, even the sick being dragged from their beds.

At Bath, Me., the mob broke into the church and, after wrecking the altar and the pulpit, set fire to the building which was reduced to a heap of ashes.

At Dorchester, Massachusetts, a keg of gunpowder was placed under the floor of the little Catholic church, it was fired at three o'clock in the morning and resulted in almost the total destruction of the building.

Another Catholic church, at Sidney, Ohio, was blown up with gunpowder.

At Massillon, Ohio, another church was burned, and an attempt made to burn the Ursuline Convent at Galveston, Texas.

At Lawrence and at Chelsea, Massachusetts, the Catholic churches were attacked by the Knownothing mob, the windows smashed, and much other damage done.

St. Mary's church at Norwalk, Conn., was set on fire and later its cross was sawed off the spire.

A fire was started in the church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Brooklyn, and the building was saved only by the interference of the police aided by the militia, who drove off the mob.

St. Mary's Church at Saugerties, N. Y., was set on fire and nearly destroyed by the fanatics, and an attempt made to burn the church at Palmyra, N. Y.

at Louisville, Ky., the elections were attended with such rioting and bloodshed, the result of Knownothing agitation, that the day (5 Aug.) acquired the name of "Bloody Monday". The cathedral was invaded by the mob and was saved from destruction only by the prudence of Bishop Spalding, who, in a letter to Bishop Kenrick summing up the results of the day's proceedings, said: "We have just passed through a reign of terror surpassed only by the Philadelphia riots. Nearly one hundred poor Irish have been butchered or burned and some twenty houses have been consumed in the flames. The City authorities, all Knownothings, looked calmly on and they are now endeavouring to lay the blame on the Catholics"

Ku Klux Klan ...Does the rhetoric sound familiar to you?

Eventually Klansman envisioned a plot whereby the Pope planned on taking over the country and "making America Catholic"

"Patriots, view the hellish countenances of hundreds of thousands of Knightsa Of Columbus and Millions of members of the Roman Catholic Church.

The later despise real Americanism, hate our government, hate you patriots. They class your mothers, sisters and daughters as harlots, while the former is the monstrous orin wheel on which the Roman Catholic Church hopes to crush America, American Government, American institutions and purity of women for the sake of the Dago on the Tiber..."

You are going to LOVE this...Nothing new in this world

In the course of feeding fears of it's members, the clan supplied spurious, but inspired statistics on the growing Catholic menace in America.

Five states now have Catholic Administrations;
20,000 public schools now have one-half Catholic Teachers.

Roman Catholics are in the majority of councils of 15,000 cities and towns of the Untied States;
Seven out of ten convicted criminals in the United States are Roman Catholic

AND I LOVE THIS...THEY WERE BASHING THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA AS HAVING A LIBERAL BIAS...100 YEARS AGO...

"Were it not that the press is throttled by Rome and it's Hebrew allies, astounding revelations would be made, showing the public neccessity for the rising of the Heroes of The Burning Cross (KKK)."

Still doing the terrorists work for them olln?

Journalist Amy Zerba filed this report from Gainesville, Florida:
Churches read from Quran in face of proposed Quran Burning:

More than 20 religious leaders from Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Muslim backgrounds around Gainesville had the same Quran passage read - along with Christian and Hebrew scriptures– at their congregations over the weekend. Local synagogues made it part of their Rosh Hashanah celebrations.

No one here is contesting whether Islamic Terrorists exist...so I am unsure what your aim is in posting links to articles regarding terrorist attacks and plots?

...beyond the obvious...obfuscating rational debate with fear mongering...An appeal to the weak minded among us?...An apeal to the lizard-brained among us? If you keeping saying Jihadist/Terrorist and Muslim in the same sentence the lazy minded will stop realizing there is a difference?

See my KKK posts of old above...to me it is history, to you it is a mirror and the anonymity of the net serves as your cowardly hood.

America is really a phenomenal creation...It's principles and constitution have been perfectly designed to survive all breeds of intolerance in an ageless fashion, whether they be jihadists or home grown hate mongers and xenophobes.

You are quickly just becoming a caricature...

Radical Islam has outmanoeuvred West, says Tony Blair

Western democracies have been "outspent, outmanoeuvred and out-strategised" by violent Islamist extremists, Tony Blair has claimed.

www.telegraph.co.uk...

By the way, Maybereal11, you had better have a word with that Tony Blair. That KKK loving, catholic burning bigot!

How dare he talk about Islamist extremists!

He should just pretend they don't exist, just as you prefer.

You know, if you pretend Islamic terrorists don't exist, and you close your eyes real tight, they go away!
