Over a 48 hour period, the 15th MEU/PELARG team conducted offensive air operations in Afghanistan resulting in the deaths of 5 confirmed enemy fighters, provided disaster relief in Pakistan to 120 victims who had been without aid since July, and seized a pirated vessel, rescuing a crew of 11 hostages and detaining 9 suspected pirates off the coast of Somalia. A busy couple of days and an impressive battle-rhythm by any standard for this dynamic Navy-Marine Corps team.

For her part, the USS Dubuque was 1,500 miles away from her command ship, the USS Peleliu, and attached to Combined Task Force 151 (CTF 151) – the international counter piracy task force – when the events associated with the pirated motor vessel occurred. She spent the night of 7 September escorting vessels through shipping corridors in the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC) in the Gulf of Aden.

pretty cool to hear that they maanged to pull it off with no loss of life check out the story at the link for the full story

I thin kyou just contradicted yourself.

Worse, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

War of any kind is wrong. Invading another country in order to profit from pipelines transporting Oil, Water, Gas and Opium drugs is sick and lower than human. I'm guessing you haven't done your homework.

i was talking about the retaking of the seized vessel and the fact that none of the crew in hiding were injured or killed especially compared to how the russians handle things i think the part you quoted was in reference to there combat duties in Afghanistan?

Correct. I was refering to the Afghan portion.

It becomes more and more clear to me that violence, of any kind is the last retort of a weak argument.

As so called 'intelligent beings' we should be striving to move away from violence, and encouraging our fellow man to do the same.

Small wonder why we have "militant groups" when the US (one of many agressors), invades nations to suit itself.

It is high time we progressed beyond clubbing one another over the head, and applauding ourselves for doing so.

But perhaps I'm being too "far out" for this to be "acceptable".

DN.

Oh, I can take good news gladly. I do so every day - or at least it's hopefully the case.

However the reporting, and glorification of American soldiers murdering Afghans on their own soil is not big, not clever, and certainly not right.
If Afghansitan invaded the USA and shot dead "American Insurgents" then reported it on their website, how would you feel? Just think about that for a moment... "American Insurgents", as opposed to "Afghan Insurgents"... where is the difference?

You are derailing the thread tho, we are talking about the combat effectiveness of these military personnel, and how they managed to do all of this in a manner that cost no loss of innocent life, and in rapid succession.....

Not on if you agree with the war or not, or what your ideology is on terrorism or "freedom fighters"

No offense.......but that is the thread topic

IMHO this is how professional our military should always be, these guys are doing a great job, and shows what we can put our mind to with precision , and timing

The pirates were outgunned and outnumbered so hugely it must have been impossible for them to do anything but make defiant gestures and await the boarding eam with trepidation....
Lets get real, three warships of the line, a couple of armed to the teeth cobra gunships that could obviously make life on deck of the pirated vessel a living (or should is say dying?)hell on earth.
Before th marines even got on board with their superior forepower and numbers....
What could a few stoned out somali pirates do against such overwhelming odds but cry for mercy?
They couldnt even reach the hostages to harm them if they wanted to...so they had nothing but bluff going for them.
I suppose everybody involved will get a medal too no doubt....What stupid meaningless propaganda this is...
Readers Digest level gingoism.....!
