Not the fault of feminism if no dad in picture, that is the fault of the male! How dare you try to blame the single mom as some example of feminism ruining things.

What has angered me in the past is when I encounter people who think that I don't do anything in my life because I choose to stay at home and raise my child. Women who choose this path are often seen as ignorant, weak, small minded, or not ambitious. All I can say is, never judge a book by it's cover.

I ran into that quite a bit too while I was a stay-at-home mom. Someone would ask what I did and when I said stay-at-home mom, homemaker, housewife, or any variation their response was almost always "Oh..." followed by a look of pity. I chose to stay home til my children were old enough to talk simply because I didn't trust anyone outside of family enough to leave helpless infants with and because we were fortunate enough to be able to afford the two years I took off with each of them. Not because I was incapable of doing anything else or because I had no ambitions of my own.

It's odd really. Some men can't stand it if women want to work outside the home or have minds of our own, yet if we do stay home with the kids we're seen as lazy, ignorant, free-loaders. Makes no sense to me.

I think there are two sides to this issue and the author only adresses one.

For example, the author would have you believe that every woman was wholy content and satisified in their roles as homemakers and mothers, and that all men were deeply devoted and faithful to their wives. I am sure reality was slightly different, and many women were deeply disasitified in their marriges, were abused, cheated on or treated as second class citizens, and had no avenue of escape or justice. They were trapped financially as well as morally, because for many divorce was considered a sin and a social stigma.

Women being able to work provides us with the freedom of being able to leave unhealthy relationships, instead of being forced to stay because we cannot provide our own basic needs in life.

I need to help provide income, but I also enjoy getting out of the house to go to work, it gives me a break from home and a chance to be a part of the world. And I am married, and love my child, but I would hate to be at home ALL the time to clean and cook. I would simply go nuts.

For the author to say that the only freedom we gained through feminisim was the freedom to be sluts is somewhat insulting. Yes, there are many young women who choose that lifestyle, and there are also many men who do as well. Why is it ok for one and not the other?

We can't forget all the fathers who are the primary caretakers of their children. It would seem that men have a little more freedom as well.

I think these stereotypes need to be left in the last century.

It's useless to get anyone with an opinion on this subject to concede to points given by the opposition. Instead of arguing with chauvinists and femefascists, I'll try to direct your attention to this humorous yet highly relevant video excerpt of comedian Bill Burr's take on the subject. Enjoy.

And to you staunch feminists who's hair bristles at the very thought of anything being wrong with your gender elevating movement, grow a sense of humor.

In a not so distant future, you won't be able to tell the difference between the two sexes.

Women talk more openly about sex now, they openly use foul language as much as men, many of them are getting tattoos, they're more willing to get physically aggressive, they burp and pass gas in public, they wear jeans with holes in them, they drive pick-ups, some are body builders, and some can hold their alcohol as much as men.

Guys on the other hand, are getting their ears pierced, wearing earrings, shaving their back and chest hairs, they spend more time in the kitchen, some are wearing g-string underwear
, wearing hip hugger skin tight jeans and they sag their pants to show off their butt.

I'm in my 50's, and I'm used to women being more feminine and classy than what I see now.
. I hope I didn't offend anyone here, but I'm just telling it the way I see it.

Well, let the record state that I would be proud to be a trophy wife. I'd love nothing more than to sit in my lovely house, cook, and clean on occasion. I'd love to never have to work a day in my life and be nothing but arm candy. Sounds like THE life.

Anyone seeking a trophy wife?

Gender elevating movement?

I think the only "gender elevating" going on here is by the men who want a stepford wife to cater to their every need.

Gender elevating...

When was the last time anyone went out on a date and had the women offer to pay for the dinner ?

How many time have you been asked by a female co worker to lift something for them or do other things that women "cant do" ?

I also agree that they have almost ruined the term relationship.

Women are always asking me to lift things for them at work, and it makes them look better by their jobs getting done at the expense of mine. Now I just tell them.....welcome to the world of equality, do it yourself.

The original post is overtly sexist. It proposes that the womans default role is as a home-maker. What a load of crap! Tell me my male friends (yes, I'm also male), what was the last bison or boar you hunted, the last nut or berry you gathered or the last predator you evaded? NEWSLASH!: Gender roles are interchangeable! Women can evolve beyond the role of home-maker just as men can evolve (actually de-evolve) from the role of hunter and gatherer.

It sucks that most of you can't see the sexism contained in the OP (post rather than poster). It sucks more that the mods can't seem to work it out for themselves either.

Are we denying or nurturing ignorance, folks?

The real problem?

Men don't like to share power.

Women were property.

Women were to "driven by emotion" to vote.

and it goes on and on.

All across this planet men are still trying to suppress women.

Truth be told feminism has set us all free. When men and women are equal in all things then there is no need to roleplay and each person can be who they were meant to be instead of who society says they should be.

I don't think that "feminism" originally started out as a man-hating endeavor. It started out because women were sick and tired of not being respected.

However, just like there are radical Christians and radical Muslims, there are also radical feminists. And just like the radical Christians give Christianity a bad name, and like the radical Muslims give Islam a bad name, the radical feminists gave "feminism" a bad name.

As a woman, I feel that "radical" feminism has really messed up relationships in this country, but not for the same reason the author does.

I am intelligent, good looking woman, and I have a doctorate degree. However, I have difficulty finding a man who I can relate to who, and who isn't a total pig. (No offense to the men on ATS, I'm sure all of you aren't total pigs, it's just that so far, the only single guys I meet these days are mostly uncouth pigs.)

Most men these days, only want to "date" (if you can call it that!) women who dress provocatively. If you don't dress like a total slut in Arizona, you don't get dates. Hence, I don't get many dates, because I refuse to date like most of the women in this state. (And notice, I didn't say I don't dress sexy. I do dress slightly sexy...but dressing sexy is different than dressing like a porn star.)

I also refuse to get a boob job, which for some reason also seems to be a pre-requisite here in Arizona. I swear, I've even had 2 men I've dated request that I get a boob job. Needless to say, I didn't go out with them after that. (I should have told them to get a penis implant, and I'd think about it, but I digress....)

I did find it extremely demeaning that the author of the article said that the greatest fulfillment a woman could have is to be a wife and a mother. Well, although I'm not a wife or a mother, I know many wives and mothers who would disagree with that. I know my own mother would disagree with that. She raised two kids, and she loves to work, even in her 60's. It gives her a great sense of fulfillment.

I was a child of the 70's, and we were pushed to go to college, become equals of men, etc... I'm glad I got an education, because I love learning. But I will say that the "feminist movement" has really made things difficult for our generation. Looking back, I'd say that I wished that they had thought of the biological clock thing. I never got married, nor did I have children, and now it's too late for me, because I'm 41. Do I wish I would have had children? Sometimes.

Sometimes I wish they would have said "Well, you can go to college, but it may mean giving up having a family. Just so you know." Nobody ever told us that in the 70's. They didn't put that in the movie "Free to be you and me, " which we were shown over and over again. (I can still sing all the songs to it, too!) I wish they had.

But we were told we could have it all...careers, mothers, families, husbands.... and we believed it. After all, men have wives and families and a career, why shouldn't women? But, it is different, because we women have a shorter time period when we can have kids!

My hope for the future generations is that it will come back into balance. I think our generation was the "pilot program". We tried it, we now see the results, and although there is a lot of good that came from it, our society is also truly unraveling at the edges.

I don't know what the answer is.

However, I also think that when men had to stop trying so hard to impress a woman (because of feminism), they also stopped trying to impress themselves...they stopped challenging themselves....and then the men became not worth having. Altogether, we became a society of people seeking "instant gratification." And then when we were tired of instant gratification (in our 20's and 30's) we didn't know how to go back.

So, yes, the dating life sucks for me. But then I look at the men and I ask myself - do I want to date these men? No. Most of my friends husbands have turned out to be lying alcoholics or drug addicts, or cheating scoundrels. But times have changed, not just for women, but for men, too. Men are very different than the way they used to be.

I swear, sometimes I think my father is the last decent men on the planet. He would never treat a woman the way most of the men treat women these days.

But he was born in 1938, so I think those good guys are long gone.

And unfortunately, most women don't think they deserve to be treated any better than they are being treated.

It's not elevating? Well, then it's either lowering or insisting on status quo. I thought the whole point of feminism was elevating women from household slaves with no rights to equal members of society. How is that not elevating?

Lucky people like you exist only in mass on the Internet. Where you belong.

Marriage did use to be oppression, you only have to look at the bible, old and new, to see how people in the past viewed and treated women.

If you believes a womans place is in the kitchen with 13 kids hanging off their saggy tits then fine, find yourself one you have a choice... And that's the point. Choice. Women now have choice and you are obviously threatened by that.

Are you one of those males who is threatened to have his partner making more money than he is?

Sorry.

The funny thing is that most of my life I did not think I would ever like foreign women, that is before I was to to get to know a foreign woman. I have never met one I didn't like. To all of you non American women on this board I love you all even some I have never talked to I'd bet money on I would like too.

You are all such charmingly wonderful goddesses. Non American women are to be cherished.

And a few American women...:shk:

Amen to that, I have come to the same conclusion. Most American women are spoiled brats who want nothing but money and will claim they got it all by hard work under this embarrassing banner of feminism, but ask their ex husbands how they really got paid.

WOW....I have to say that this thread disturbs me right to my core. I did not know that there were so many men that were so threatened by women that they can only share their true feelings by an anonymous post on the internet, because I Know no one has ever expressed this to me in REAL LIFE. I'm almost worried that I'm going to be attacked by some random man for working outside the home, you know like in countries that have Sharia Law. Almost worried because few men would act on their hatred that they have expressed in this thread. They know they wouldn't get very far!

Feminism is just another "ism" meant to instill fear in people and further the divide and conquer strategy that is tearing our society apart. Come on people, you're doing exactly what they want you to do. And that is what is destroying the male/female relationship and the family unit. Not some boogeyman called Feminism. If you agree with the article in the OP, then surely you must agree with the way women are treated by Sharia Law, yes?

I'd love to be able to do nothing. Isn't that everyone's life goal? Do as little as possible and be happy doing it? Come on.

That is why many women were tempted by feminism in the first place… because ignorant men thought they were doing nothing. They were raising their children, teaching them values, caring for the entire household, and setting the course for the future of an entire nation. The man came home from work and everything was in order and he didn’t even know.

When I read a book called “The Bonds of Womanhood” over 20 years ago about the women of New England between 1780 and 1885, I was totally amazed by reading some of the letters these women wrote to each other… These women knew the man didn’t have a clue as to the importance of their work at home raising their children… but these women were smart enough not to care what the men thought because they knew that they were grooming the future of an entire nation within their children and within their homes. They knew the entire future of a nation was in their hands and that their work was so vital that it wasn’t necessary for the man to know this truth.

These women were dependent on the men materially but were independent of the men in their thinking. Today women are the opposite… they are independent of the men materially but dependent on men in the way they think… they have to think like men to compete in the work place. What they do is dependent on what men do… they have to learn the jobs that men created and have always done. They have to become like men and that’s why deep down they are empty, unfulfilled and miserable.

And now society is so unstable it’s on the brink of total collapse because women are no longer independent in the way they think and behave… they have become totally dependent on the men.

These Rockefeller types, who are men, knew what they were doing by creating and financing the promotion of feminism.

When I read a book called “The Bonds of Womanhood” over 20 years ago about the women of New England between 1780 and 1885, I was totally amazed by reading some of the letters.

Lol! Talk about holding a grudge. Maybe you should put that book down, pack your bags and come back to the 21st century. It's no wonder men can't get a break in this day and age. Pissed off women like you are still holding grudges from a time when even your grandparents didn't exist! Far be it from me to accuse Feminists of being angry whilst founded on nothing based in an age they actually lived in. That's called "swallowing propaganda" hook, line and sinker. So, some old cackling, bickering hens from the 17th century were bitter about their lives....as far as I have seen women complain more now than ever, and they get everything handed to them on a silver platter.

Another thread where legitimate criticism of Feminism gets transformed into a "you hate women, you don't want them to have any rights!" thread. This "Misogynist" label will soon have lost its meaning due to overuse. Notice how defensive certain female posters get when general comments about women are made, but these same people have no problem making general statements about the inadequacies of men.
