Uh oh, you didn't post what I think you did, did you?

Yep, you did.

That Avril Lavigne cover is horrendous, I don't think there's a single Metallica fan who actually liked her version. I cringe when I even think about it.

I have to agree with curious7 my intrepid friend (see what I did there?), terrible cover by Avril, fortunately this thread allows for the misses too

Speaking of which...

(It's actually quite awesome)

Probably the best punk pop song ever.

The Buzzcocks.

And a great cover by Fine Young Cannibals.

I saw The Buzzcocks live just recently and they were as loud as ever, a quality band.

The Tide Is High has been covered by several bands.
Here, in my opinion, are by far the best two versions.

The original by Jamaican Rocksteady band The Paragons.

And Blondie.

Early Snoop I can live with thanks to some college friends always listening to him and ICP as well as Korn, Slipknot etc but yeah, Snoop covering it had me cringing and I didn't know Nickelback did it too but theirs is bad also.

Once was enough for me lol

Saw it at MTV: ICON back in 2003, hated it and thought "man, the Tallica Boys are really being nice if they're applauding this cheesy, one hit flavour of the month's crappy rendition of one of their great songs".

Which is ironic because if Avril had bangs, she'd look exactly like one of my best friends in college.

On topic, I like Pantera's covers of "Planet Caravan" (originally by Black Sabbath) and "Cat Scratch Fever" (originally by The Nuge)

I first heard Stiff Little Fingers back in '78 and have been a fan ever since.
They've recorded some truly great original material and some classic covers.

Wailing Covers - Mr Fire Coal Man

SLF - Mr Fire Coal Man

Probably SLF's greatest cover and one of them hair standing on end moments when experienced live.

Bob Marley - Johnny Was

SLF- Johnny Was

Ska, 2-Tone, Punk, Oi, Reggae etc have always influenced each other and the scenes are still very interlinked.

The Specials - Doesn't Make It Alright

SLF - Doesn't Make It Alright

In the early days SLF used to often finish a live set with 'silly encores', a practice that has become relatively common nowadays.

Johnny Preston - Running Bear

SLF - Running Bear / White Christmas

Quite a few more I could have posted as well.
A great band, still recording new material and touring - they are playing live tonight very near to where I live and even though I have seen them lots of times before I am gutted I'm not going due to a previous committment.
