Metallica seem to make every cover they make sound better than the original. Too many examples to list but "Turn The Page" and "Green Hell" come to mind.

System Of A Down's version of "Snowblind" by Black Sabbath sucks.

Coal Chamber's cover of "Shock The Monkey" by Peter Gabriel is pretty cool.

The Levellers are one of my favourite bands and whilst they aren't really known for their cover versions there have been some notable exceptions.

And The Levellers brilliant version of Zounds AnarchoPunk classic.

The original.

What could better than The Levellers covering The Clash?

Dexys Midnight Runners were a great band and recorded some fantastic songs of their own but they also recorded great covers of a couple of Northern Soul classics.

Chuck Wood. Seven Days Are Too Long.

And Dexy's version.

Johnny Johnson And The Bandwagon. Breaking Down The Walls Of Heartache.

Dexy's brilliant cover was released on the flip side if their classic single 'Geno'.

I discovered This group called Williams Fairey Brass Band who basically do covers of old classic house and techno tracks. No Im a bit older it's nice to hear the tracks in a less energetic setting.

William Fairey Brass band cover of Rhythm is Rhythm - Strings of life.

Three versions of a classic that has been recorded by numerous artists.

The original was written in 1931 by Florent Reece, the wife of a union organiser who, along with her children had just been terrorised and threatened by mining company heavies.

Florent Reece.

Pete Seeger

Dropkick Murphys

Therapy? does Husker Du.

I've got a number of covers among my music collection & this is a firm favourite, due to the way they approached it. An alternative metal band releasing a single which doesn't have any guitar, drum or bass parts is not something that happens every day (and no, it's not acapella...).

Tori Amos does Nirvana.

I prefer this to the original as Tori's a slightly better singer than Kurt

The Proclaimers do Steve Earle.

The original is a damned fine song but their vocal harmonies give it that special something,

Pitchshifter do XTC.

Last but definitely not least, the bestestest cover evererer (or words to that effect)
