Long Island Man Arrested For Defending Home With AK-47

Seems to me that this guy has been listening too much to right wing talk shows. First thing he did that was wrong was to go outside with an imposing weapon. Second thing he did that was wrong was to fire a few rounds into the grass. These two actions declare to anyone watching that he is right on the edge of a disaster.

Tough guys are not afraid of Joe with a gun. So Joe is now in a situation of his own making. The gangsters call the cops and complain about being threatened and the cops take Joe away for his own safety. Why not the gangsters? Why don't they go to jail? Because all they did was stand on the guy's driveway. Trespassing? Sure. But of the two, Joe and the gangsters, which was more likely to cause real harm?

What Joe didn't know is that these guys are not afraid of him and his AK. Too bad for Joe. What he should have done is something like, stay out of sight and turn on the lawn sprinklers or turn on really bright lights. Either of these, with no Joe in sight to taunt, would have made them leave. Joe has to be smarter than the gangsters.

Gangs exist because they enjoy the freedoms that the constitution gives them. How nice it would be to impose a curfew on the night crawlers but without something like the necessity of martial law that should not be happening in America.

The real question is how to eliminate gangs. The best answers lay in the social realms not in law enforcement. Poor Joe. Poor all of us. Poor blighted neighborhoods which produce people that are so lost in the world that they cannot find "family" at home so they gravitate to the dark side.
