has anybody ever thought that the "adam and eve" story is just an allagory for human developement?
think about it. at first we are innocent and feel its perfectly ok to run naked and play. all things are good. then we gain knowledge (puberty) (as
an aside, serpents in many cultures represent re-birth into something new, like from child to teen). at puberty we realized we will die, as well as
right from wrong. once puberty hits we must leave the "garden" of child-like innocence and start the hard work of life.
i think the old ones, before the seperation of religion and science, were keen observers, not just of the heavens, but of human nature itself. they
placed this knowledge into stories to be passed on by those that were naturally keen and observant. they taught them how to see and understand the
truth behind the stories.
after all, as joseph campbell says (or was it jung), "in religion, this means that."
