What Exactly Is A Pentacostal Church ?

Hey all .

The other night i was walking home and i was walking through the main street of town when i heard this cool music playing.

I followed the sound and found where it was coming from , It was a church band and i found out that some people i knew are members there so i sat down for a little while and listened to the band .

After a little while a person that i know came up to me and i asked about the church and she told me that it was very different then usual churches and told me about there meetings every sunday and things of that sort .

Then she mentioned to me that they talk in tongues ? ?

Now that sort of surprised me and i honestly dont know what to think .

Just thought i would ask before coming to any decisions because i dont know alot about these people .


Any help would be appreciated .

Yes,the music is modern and pretty free flowing,has ranges of intensity
and some churches have their own brand and style.

I can't vouch for every church out there,i go to the one that i like,
It is nice to be amongst other Christians but church is not the be all to end all,
The church that you go to should follow the bible and it's core tenets,
if you would like to know about certain things then feel free to u2u me.

Knowing God is the most important thing of all,Going to Church is
a benefit not a demand nor a hook which Faith hangs on.

As for the speaking in tongues,well,they prolly do,others will say
that it is irrelevant,that it is ungodly,that they are freaks or something,
Again,having a relationship with God and knowing his love in your heart
is the foundation of Faith,Gifts of wisdom and speaking in tongues and
all those things are not the foundation of Faith but the fruit of it.

eta- I played in a Church band for seven years and i am
an extreme metalhead and i dont really agree with loud fast music in church...

Hey Omega85,

I've had some experience with Pentecostal people and from what I've personally seen, they seem to be rather spiritual and open-minded people.

Yes, their teachings do follow the teachings of Jesus, but I've always found them to be willing to talk about other belief systems and then relate them to their own beliefs.

Although I don't want to stereotype all followers of the Pentecostal Church, the one's I have met have been nothing but nice people with a willingness to perceive and relate to other peoples view of the world.

Yeah , i mean they seemed really nice and the people whom i know are my friends so they are nice people too .

To be honest the talking in tongues thing kinda through me though , and i heard something about snakes or something ?


I just feel that its a big deal so i dont want to get into something like this on a whim without doing some research .
