LIVE VIDEO: Man climbing San Francisco skyscraper

Man climbing San Francisco skyscraper

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A man is climbing the Millennium Tower in San Francisco.

The man, in his 50s, is believed to be Dan Goodwin, also known as "Skyscraper Man."

Goodwin started climbing around 2:15 p.m.

San Francisco police say the man has refused to come down and police are waiting at the top of the building to arrest him if he makes it to the top.

Mission Street is closed from Beale to Fremont streets.

This is happening now! Looks as if he's using suction cups to ascend the skyscraper!

Being a thrill seeker myself, I love this kind of thing!

They said the cops are waiting at the top for the poor guy though. Maybe he'll base jump right before he gets to them though!

Not much other info that I could find to report right now, but will edit with a proper story.

Enjoy the LIVE video in the meantime.

heh, thanks for the report! He's been climbing for quite a while now. I wish the helicopter cam would zoom out now and again so we can see just how much more he has to go!

Yeah he's getting there.

It'll be interesting to see how he's treated at the top by the police, eh?

Those people are crazy to be lying down looking over the edge. My stomach couldn't handle it, I know. Very interesting. The American flag...

And the hand shake, haha.

I'm surprised they are letting those people habg over the edge like that.

Wonder what he is using to mount the flag, duct tape?

That was pretty freakin' cool to watch! Wish i had the skill to attempt something like that. Ya think the local gym's 20 meter rock climbing wall will get me there?

That truly was a spectacle. Thanks for the heads up. Hope he doesn't get to worked over by the cops. I hope they give a little respect, that was a pretty amazing feat.

Well that's all folks.

Yeah, that was especially cool how the cops helped with tacking the flag up.

edit:

Millennium Tower (San Francisco)

The US$350 million project was developed by Millennium Partners of New York City, designed by Handel Architects, engineered by DeSimone Consulting Engineers and constructed by Webcor Builders. At 645 ft (197 m), it is the tallest concrete structure in San Francisco, the fourth tallest building in San Francisco overall, and the tallest since 345 California Street in 1986.

Tallest concrete structure in San Fran!

Go Skyscraper Man!

Take note people, this man is living life, respect goes out to him for doing what he enjoys best as odd as it may be!

Why would the cops arrest him though ? Is there a specific law which says "don't scale tall buildings" ?

I don't know of any specific law against it. However, he was charged with trespassing and public nuisance. Even tho it may seem harmless it does put bystanders at a considerable risk. The attention it garners also causes disruption to traffic flow and ties up emergency resources.

I find it cool as hell however that somebody can do that. Doing it without a harness and so high, at a 90 deg angle no less, makes it even more fascinating.
