A 2006 Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation into the purchase of child pornography online turned up more than 250 civilian and military employees of the Defense Department -- including some with the highest available security clearance -- who used credit cards or PayPal to purchase images of children in sexual situations. But the Pentagon investigated only a handful of the cases, Defense Department records show.

I did a quick search, but couldn't find any threads relating to this story. I came across it by chance and have been left a little confused by the implications this story has. Firstly, we are talking about people, in who we are supposed to trust implicitly, accessing child porn with little regard for their anonymity. Using government email addresses and their own addresses to procure this illicit material.

Based on that, did they really care how they accessed the material and if not, why? Paedophilia seems rampant amongst institutions of perceived importance. What is with kids and people in power?
