Holy S@#T,I live on the southern tip of vic Aus, me and the missus were in the kitchen and i felt a very faint tremor would have been 7- 7.30 am,i wonder if its related??

Civil defense live on TV saying main priorities are people safety and getting the water supply sorted.

Distribution points to be setup around the city for water

Grant update on that 7.57 shock,
its upgraded to a 5.2

geoligist states sand vocanos bubbling up cracks up to 30 cms

ground water shaken violently and created water up to ground level

avon didnt bust its banks the water was shaken so voilently it over flowed its banks

austrailian plate has slipped under the alps

fault lines are being measured for movement

News breaking from New Zealand Geologist on live TV1 channel,

the 7.4 quake, was NOT on New Zealands main fault line! It was centred on one of its offshoots in Canterbury.

Not sure if this is good news. They have been expecting a big quake on the major fault for years.

the geoligy guy is saying liqafaction has occoured and the plain that dafeild is on is especially bad for reverberation and sand gysers and water gysers are being reported around christchurch

First, thanks for keeping us informed! My question is, what do you mean by a "power blackout to test for faults?" Are they keeping the power off until they are sure that the faults are stable?

we have a system of cutting power in cases of servere eqs
the power companies are required to complete test before restoring power as live lines can cause fires

many historical sites and heritage buildings are totally destroyed
churches hit hard with alot over 60 years old

cell phones about to go off (back up battery failure)

city wide devistation is being reported
every house has damage (citizen unconfirmed)

army being mobilized with medics food and medical supplies and comunications equipment

cracks reported through roads and buildings

still no loss of life reported

There was a geoligist on live TV about half hour ago talking about the quake.

They reckon only about 30mins left on cellphone tower batteries.
