Muslims should not be allowed to build a mosque in NY close to the site of the WTC in the same way that catholics should not be allowed to build a church in Eniskillen, Omargh, Manchester, London ......

I agree. The US and all of it's freedoms, including freedom of religion were attacked on 9/11. We were attacked by al Qaida and not by Islam.

12,000 of our US soldiers, right now fighting in Afghanistan, are Muslim.

Using an Islamic Community Center, that includes a room for prayer to bash Islam by noting it is within a 5 mile radius of WTC is a thinly veiled tactic of mainstream, anonymous, white supremacy members and agenda.

Many groups with legitimate complaints but those who actively threaten "white Christian's" with extinction seem to energize the most motivated WC voter block.

The United States is not at war with Islam.
Even GWB emphasized this after he escorted the remaining bin Laden's, out of the country.

And Americans should not be consumers of tobacco cotton or sugar out of sensitivity and respect to the deep and abiding wounds left upon our black American brethren, and out of deep respect for the many lives lost (just in transport of bodies) during our vigorous and reprehensible slave trading years.

You know, Plato has a theory about civilizations which roughly says they go through democracy, chaos, totalitarianism and then back through the cycle again. If your way of thinking ever becomes common place, then it would be a sure sign we are living in chaos.

These remarks you make abuse your right of free speech, especially when they are meant to incite.

The people saying all Muslims are evil and that they want to take over the world need to wake up. Your paranoia's getting the better of you!

How dare anyone prevent people from exercising their right of freedom of religion? Say what you want, you can't generalize a whole people based on the actions of few.

That is hilarious! I also wasn't aware that the Statue of Liberty could speak...so many things about New York that I wasn't aware of.

The Mosques that operate hate preachers and extremists are open, are in London or the rest of the Middle East, do not mean they get closed down; actually Mosques get blown up all the time in the Middle East because one sect is better than another apparently.

I hope this multicultural Mosque allows women who are not covered up in, wel like that happens when politicians and newsreports visit Muslim places, even the Queen covers herself up out of the sensitivities of the sensitive religion towards people’s sensitive feelings.

Do gays and lesbians get a free entry since they are loads in that area of town?

Do people have to take their shoes off when they walk in there?

Are we sure they are as free as they preach it will be?

I am sorry to say but Islam does not care what the free, the Christian, the Jew or even the neighbour’s Dog thinks in its true form because its officially against its rules.
If Muslims can be democratic Muslims then it’s a step forward as a reformed religion which is not the true scriptural Islam, again a recipe for disaster and you know another sect will want to show what kind of Islam is right.

Bottom line: your opinion of the Muslim religion has no bearing whatsoever on the right of this Imam and his congregation to build an Islamic Cultural Center on their own private property. It wouldn't matter if 98% of Americans were opposed to it, because the foundation of our legal system and our way of life states clearly that no law is to be made restricting the free practice of religion.

There is no clause providing for a popular vote on whether a given religion is to have the same freedoms as the others. Furthermore, in the American legal system, under the American way of life and the American culture as it was designed by the Founding Fathers, we are all presumed innocent of any crime until proven guilty! I cannot fathom the level of self-deception and doublethink that must be required to use the preservation of the American culture and our way of life as justification for treating over 2 million citizens within our own borders as though they are all accessories to a crime for which they have not been tried, much less convicted.

Certainly those opposed to the project have every right to speak out in protest to their heart's content, but if they truly expect or even demand that the government of the United States of America step in to prevent the construction of a religious center on private property, they are showing for all the world that they feel that their own prejudices trump the Bill of Rights.

For a self-professed American patriot to issue blanket condemnations of millions due to the alleged actions of dozens or hundreds, and then advocate creating a de facto exemption from First Amendment protections for these millions of fellow citizens... it boggles the mind. It's equivalent to one of these Muslims eating a ham sandwich while drawing a picture of Mohammed on the Ka'bah.

We live in a nation founded on the principles of freedom of belief, expression and association. A nation built on due process of law and equality for all citizens under this law. One cannot support removal of these freedoms for a group of millions due to the alleged actions of dozens or hundreds while remaining true to our nation's cultural roots.

Let's try some simple mathematics. I think we can all agree that these numbers don't lie: There are over 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide. This is roughly 21% of the world's population.

If we account for women, children and the elderly and infirm, we have c. 500 million capable adult Muslim men on the planet. If they were all radical supporters of the extremist Wahhabi sect and jihadi terrorists, there'd be a major attack weekly! They would not be pussyfooting around by building a community center that is secretly a symbol of their hatred for the infidel. If they were all the type of person who sells kids into slavery, beats and stones women, and bombs buildings full of innocents, they'd have an army of fanatical sociopaths larger than the population of the entire US. I daresay that they would not celebrate an successful attack on NY and DC with a hidden message in the name of a cultural center.

In fact I will just come right out and say it: if all or even most Muslims were violent radicals interested in jihad, we'd be no safer in NYC, DC, or London than the innocent Muslims that have become "collateral damage" over the past decade in Kabul, Baghdad, Fallujah, Basra, etc.

Are Suicide Bombers in Heaven? Ground Zero Imam Rauf Won't Say No

When you detonate explosives attached to your torso, simultaneously decapitating people on a bus or disemboweling little children at a kindergarten, do you go to heaven or to hell?

While the answer might seem straightforward to some, it clearly flummoxed Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, he of the ground zero mosque controversy, when it was asked of him by Barbara Walters in her 2006 TV special on heaven.

In response to the question as to whether suicide bombers go to heaven, Ground Zero Imam Rauf said

"One of the things that we are taught is never to say somebody will go to hell or somebody will go to heaven. It is up to God to decide."

While normal Muslims must wait until judgment day to be admitted to heaven, Muslims who die in Jihad, go immediately to heaven.

So far, on the 25th day of Ramadan, the religion of 'peace' has carried out 176 terrorist attacks in the name of Islam, killing 837 people.

In the same period, 1 Hindu has murdered 1 Christian.

Almost all Western Muslim terrorists hail from the Wahabi (Salafi) school of Islam.

Approximately 8% of Muslims in Western countries are Salafi Muslims.

Salafi Muslims prefer to preach in and attempt to dominate more mainstream mosques rather than opening their own due to their belief that there is only one Islam and that their beliefs (to live life according to the letter of the Koran) represent its true form.

Allegations have been made that the Ground Zero Mosque is being financed by Saudi Arabian Wahabi (Salafi) money. Imam Rauf refuses to disclose the source of the mosques funding.

Just many many "fundy" christains in the military as well....but that did not stop the FBI and HLS from putting out word that they were the greatest threat to domestic tranquility in the US.

Watch'em! Snake flags and guns clinging to bibles! Call the Southern Poverty Law Center! (go pound sand up you ###)

Let them build their gymnasium.

Quite frankly, I am tired of hearing about muslims and their 'community center'.

Let them build it and maybe it will shut them the hell up.

Was up there a week ago, it really is a very LONG distance from ground zero. If you are still up in arms over this Mosque, slam your head against a brick wall until the lights go off, seriously. You make me sick, all of you.

People weren't bothered by Islam, until Islam started bothering people.

People who choose to belong to a religion responsible for wide spread terrorism around the planet, have no one but themselves to blame for the growing resentment around the planet, against their religion, and so against those who continue to embrace a religion so closely tied to continuous horrendous acts against humanity.

I have no more sympathy for them than I do members of the KKK.

You should research History before making comments like that. Western colonial nations have been interfering in the politics and economies of Islamic countries for centuries.

One example - Persia and Afghanistan were a literal battleground between Great Britain and Russia during most of the 1800's. Why? Both nations wanted to exploit the resources of those nations. Great Britain, in particular, had no concern over the territorial integrity of Persia or Afghanistan. They considered those nations merely a buffer area to prevent the Russians from gaining territory close to India.

There are many incidents throughout the pre-modern and modern periods. Islam's aggression to the west is not an action. It is a reaction. I don't know of any incidents of Islamic "terrorism" in non-muslim East Asian countries.

You do realize that Saudi Arabia owns half of NYC anyway, right?

The Saudis invested so much money in the US, if they were to pull out everything at once, the US economy would enter another crisis.
