I love your thoughts. I think the reason we aren't taught to look at ourselves and explore progressive thought is because there's no money and power in that. The power is in control of the masses. The money is in having a fear-based, consumer-driven society. And that's what we have.

Fortunately, there are pockets of people who are realizing that they are being used and they are slowly breaking away from the consumerism trap. Many are living "in the world, but not of it".

False ideologies do harm societies by representing somebody and something you are not and have nothing to do with your persona, being ourselves is part of our predestine future and no one should interfere in the making of each and every mind, everyone has ups and downs, and falls as life goes. We all cling to one true belief: God and religion because we need to find a point that is superior to our minds and work new things creating a conscience thought that will prevail for generations. Societies get what we provide to them good or bad or both and than the levels separate each person giving a chance for every human to develop a new future for his/her own kind. We all fit in one category, race, variety, and is up to the person whether to seek new challenges invading other peoples's space by not accepting the one he/she has become. Life and circunstances change and so people pretend to acquiere a new begining which works for them at the moment and place of separation of experiences having the person not satisfied with the one being but seeking something that we all search: new beginnings and oportunity that will provide a sense of happyness.
