Coast Guard confirms burning oil platform was in production; unclear where sheen comes from

The Mariner Energy platform burning off Vermilion Bay was in fact producing oil and gas when it caught fire Thursday morning, the company and Coast Guard have confirmed.

Unclear where the sheen is coming from, do they think we are a bunch of idiots, after all this is ATS.

Yeah... they think we're as dumb as the news they feed us.

So this thing first was not producing, now it is, no one can yet agree on depth of the water at which it is located, there is and their is no sheen.... and now they want us to focus on the fact that this is NOT a drilling platform, as if the fact that multiple oil pipelines lead directly to this platform is therefore irrelevant....

Sound familiar? Remember BP and the volume of non-information that was spewed at the onset (and still is to some extent)?

The PR model is to flood the system with non-info while they can get away with claiming ignorance. It a liability protection strategy.

I wonder if they learned their lesson about letting the staff-witnesses speak to anyone?

Only time will tell but I don't see us getting any information about this other than the information that is allowed to be pushed to the news. With all the connections these people have it is not something that just happened or was an accident. This was planned and deliberate.

Looking for a link, but according to the AP on twitter, there was never a sheen, no leak.

"Initial report of an oil sheen in the water came from the oil platform owner's on-scene vessel, in production when blast occurred. AP reports that the Coast Guard now says there was no oil sheen; currently no kind of leaks or spill; all workers safe & rescued." USA Breaking News

this is just a lot of chaos....it does seem awfully strange if another company has an oil spill all of a suddenly bp can't be held responsible for all the oil in the golf...sounds like an escape go....to bad we are all going to suffer from these mistakes....

Scott Josey former ENRON VP..interesting, we're (ATS members)are already trying to follow the money. I wonder if some Wall St. Scumbags created some derrivative betting on a drop in Mariner stock? This is NO accident. These bastards are up to something. Someone is about to make obscene amounts of money and the people and ecosystem of the Gulf coast will have to suffer.

Well an escape go could work for a noils pill! But for an oil spill, a scape goat might fit the context.

I need to step back and read all this properly. This thread is pretty confusing. Too much emotion.
