oil rig explodes in gulf of mexico

there are twelve people in the water and the event is happening as we type.

still no word on how it happened and if anyone was killed

its south of vermillion bay 80 miles off the coast

they are saying now that all are accounted for i do not beleive that the water is as deep at this well

the well is owned by mariner energy and as a correction they are saying 90 miles off the coast 1 is injured and there are four coast guard helicopters on scene with many others including civilian boats on the way to aid the people . the workers are in the water in their rescue dry suits 11:52pm est

this is an inactive rig what does that mean? anyone?

there is obviously a lack of safety or a blind eye being turned when it comes to safety standards on these oil rigs. its ashame that money can buy you any amount of room you need legally in our country. someone gets paid and an ocean dies its just wrong

darn you beat me to it by a couple of minutes. I fear this is going to give obama leaverge to place a longer ban on offshore drilling.

Good time.

I sure hope this doesn't cause another media obsessed oil spill. Pretty soon we may be having conspiracy theorists saying aliens are blowing up oil rigs to try and alert humanity to their faults, etc.

Better start searching the gulf waters for an enemy sub or a band of saboteurs roaming about.

Rescue efforts underway after oil rig explosion in Gulf
An oil rig has exploded 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana, with 12 people overboard and one missing, the Coast Guard said Thursday morning.

Rescue attempts are underway for at least 12 people, Coast Guard spokesman John Edwards told CNN. 13 people were on board the rig total, Edwards said, noting 12 have been accounted for, but one person was missing.

The accident took place 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana on the Vermilion Oil rig 380, which is owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy.

The Coast Guard has multiple helicopters, an airplane and several Coast Guard cutters en route. It's unknown if there are any injuries.

That was unnecessary to say. 2 oil rigs exploding in 6 months....there IS something going on that is questionable, and no doubt there is conspiratorial behavior by those that are involved.

It's easy to blame republican but the fact is that republican are not in power, democrats are. They are to blame for not enforcing the safety rules.

Now why in God's name should we suspend drilling in the Gulf? I mean what an idiot Obama is. So what if two GOM rigs exploded in 6mos. Accidents happen. Full speed ahead I say! Drill baby drill! Screw the environment. I can't drive my Suburban on any damned environment.
These frigging tree hugging twits are wrecking this country.
