Tung-Ching Shan

It is the Tung-Ching Shan radio monitoring facility. You can see the radome where the antennas are held. It is very old. CIA papers date back to the 60s.

So what is it? I can't find much about it.

I couldn't find much information on the site, which is odd considering the age.

I was searching the CIA CREST database. This is a rather annoying database since it lists documents you can only read at the NARA facility in College Park Maryland (3rd floor). All you get online is the title of the documents. Now one of the titles happened to have the coordinates for the facility, hence the post.

Consider the facility like a piece of the NSA Echelon system. China has a number of radio monitoring sites. This one is coastal, so perhaps for snooping on Taiwan or Japan.

I just ran it on my blackberry and found the spot on google maps satellite view.

it would be nice to find out more and see what all happened there I will keep looking and hopefully find some more information...

picture was very hard to make anything out on google earth....

still no luck finding anything on this....too bad seems like a lot going on there for being in the middle of nowhere...

the thing about finding stuff like this is the difficulty that goes into finding any information on it....the last one i did ended up taking me three days of every spare minute of searching...but in the end it finally paid off...
