America is dying because of greedy politicians from both parties that waste and spend trillions of dollars and crooked corporations that pay these greedy politicians to allow them to pass laws that give them and advantage in the "free market."

We can't sustain this in a global economy with cheap labor because the American people can't create enough jobs or the kind of jobs to sustain the Behemoth in Washington.

I think the answer lies in an open source society.

Open Source stated with software but has expanded into other areas.

Open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product's source materials. Some consider open source a philosophy, others consider it a pragmatic methodology.

en.wikipedia.org...

So the source code is open and available for others to modify and they can use the source code under a GNU license.

For instance, I don't use Windows, I use an open source Operating system called Ubuntu.

Open source has expanded to areas like:

Health, medicine and other areas involving technology. There's an open source cola company called OpenCola out of Canada.

This model will help spread out market share.

This is because anyone in an open source society would have access to Google or Microsoft source codes and they would be able to modify them and get a GNU license to resell the services or product.

People will still make a lot of money, it would just be spread out over the open source society instead of concentrated in the hands of a few.

Just imagine if every business idea that worked was open and available to the open source society.

If you want to start a soft drink company, you could find out how a popular soft drink makes their product, modify it, get a GNU license and sell it.

In politics, it would almost be like Jury duty. Each month a certain amount of people from the open source society will run the government and this will occur month to month.

People in an open source society will also be able to modify laws over the computer and these laws will be voted on by the open source government. This government will not control the resources of the society or be able to start wars.

I know some will say it's socialism but it's actually the way free markets should work and it's the way governments should work. Right now the model is crashing because of greed and corruption in the areas of politics and business and we need to start thinking about the future because these crooks could destroy one of the greatest countries the world has ever seen because of greed and corruption.

Star and flag for the interesting proposal!

I think I get the general idea of what your saying.

However I still believe in freedom, and that's also the freedom for people to be rewarded
for exceptional work. what your proposing is rendering patent laws somewhat useless. I believe instead, we should shorten then from say 20 years to 2-5 years. I say this because it would indeed reward creativity, yet still give society full and fair access to this technology.
I think in the long run, the more available technology is, the faster we will advance.

In terms of politics. Im curious what kind of system you propose for deciding how it would work. Its always easy to say "we should try a different way", but its a lot harder to write it out.

I also believe that we don't need to "legislate" change and that the open source mentality will slowly take over as people become more educated on it.

I guess the best thing you could do is spread awareness of it, and maybe even start your own open-source business!

I have thought of a sort of conscription of politicians like this. I don't think it will work. People abuse systems like that. Corruption would get worse, not better. I have little faith in my fellow citizen. Great proposal though. President Obama is just a few miles away from me right now. He is talking to his war machine. I wish he was open source so I could ask him to shut off the war machine. It seems they forgot to put an off switch on it. Even the generals are complaining about it. The war machine is eating more than we can feed it.

OMG Matrix Rising...where have you been, my boy? I have missed destroying your pathetic Repub talking point threads. I have had to go pick on other people and it hasn't been as fun. Truth be known, the others aren't as easy to dismantle as you are.

And looky here...a thread from you with no talking points, no calling anyone anti American, no silly line about how unfair the rich are being treated? What gives? And the biggest shocker of them all.........

I like your idea, sort of.

But if I invent something, I won't be too happy about some douchebag swooping down on it and making a copy then getting rich. Did I understand correctly? Can one opt-out of being open sourced?

I wholeheartedly agree; America is dying because of partisan politics and politicians on the dole from corporate owners.

Free enterprise is being abused by corporations that buy their competitors, thus making them the sole owners of a piece of the free market.
The insurance industry now all but owns nearly every facet of your life, paying for law to be written mandating insurance coverage of every aspect of living.
The future of America is wholly dependent on energy but the oil companies buy up patents for new means and then squat on them to prevent realization.
Companies like Monsanto are allowed to own the seeds that are produced by food crops of their design. In other words, a farmer must pay for the seeds to replant from his previous crop.

I believe in free enterprise and the right of a person or company to make a living. But it is today nothing short of wholesale abuse of the system, and the government that is supposed to protect the nation and regulate the abusers, is owned by the same.

This nation cannot much longer survive under these conditions.
