Well, I saw the Sept 6 cover for Newsweek tonight. Seems they made a mistake, or WAS IT?

You decide-

Tell me, do you realize when you add a sarcasm asterick, it applies to what you are referring to correct?

So what are they saying, that the only thing that they disagree with is that he is president? Or just all of them.

So Newsweek is bringing out the birther argument again?

I think the MSM has GONE TOO FAR!

Well, at least they were nicer than the Enquirer and didn't mention his alcoholic wife.

* An asterick to show that I also know better.

David Rockefeller quote from 1991:

"We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time
Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended
our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost
forty years."

"It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world
if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years.
But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a
world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite
and world bankers is surely preferable to the national
auto-determination practiced in past centuries."

Yeah,I believe them! *

Hmm...something about your thoughts on this tell me you need to further research your subject/predicate skills in addition to your adjective/noun recognition.

So what are they saying, that the only thing that they disagree with is that he is president?

Yeah, that's probably the line that brought me to this conclusion.

Well, it's just in time for their homepage featured article on their website, here is an extract...

Our maddening times demand that the truth be forthrightly stated at the outset, and not just that the president has nothing in common with the führer beyond the possession of a dog. The outlandish stories about Barack Hussein Obama are simply false: he wasn’t born outside the United States (the tabloid “proof” has been debunked as a crude forgery); he has never been a Muslim (he was raised by an atheist and became a practicing Christian in his 20s); his policies are not “socialist” (he explicitly rejected advice to nationalize the banks and wants the government out of General Motors and Chrysler as quickly as possible);.......more: www.newsweek.com...

Alright, I was only making a little humor at the expense of newsweek.

Tell me, what do they mean by their statement at the bottom?

Does it mean that he is not the president?

It does say this-who isn't actually any of these things.

To me, I find it funny and satirical.

Oh well, it must just be me.

This magazine just cover proves President Obama is a walking contradiction. He needs to join a band and write music.

The "*" disclaimer is that "he isn't actually any of these things". That it follows the word "President" suggests that is one of the things he's not as it is implicitly one of the things listed before the disclaiming asterisk. Had the editor any brains, the "*" should precede "president", not follow it.

So no one on ATS knows how adjectives and nouns work together anymore?

Great thread.

For being such a liberal opinion magazine, those comments to the article threw me for a loop.

Did you get a chance to read any of the comments.

Wow, it could be from over at breitbart.tv

Nouns, adjectives or whatever, it is the placement of the asterick.

Indicating the list of items. Please, give me a link to where using footnotes to a subject list rules are. Please, I had to take English 101 twice in college, we raise em dumb ere in de backwuds aye!

Placement being the key.

Or, they could have put the line above president, that would have worked.

It indicates that everything in the above descriptor is included.

Boy, were you part of the Newsweek team that put together the cover? Taking it kinda personal aren't you?

Obama is a Martian president. Obama is a reptillian president. Obama is a Kenyan Muslim Hawaiian shapeshifter president.

You tell me, is Obama any of the things I listed or not?

1) Have to see his Martian birth certificate.
2) Have to see the DNA testing.
3) Have to see the Kenyan birth certificate where it has been fatwad in the Hawaiian transmogrification room.

So you now see what you got wrong and decided to joke with me about it? Cool. Ha ha. Glad you could find humor in realizing the error in your ways.

I was being nice, I left the president off to make nice.

I still think they messed up.

Just putting this out there, is going to get those older folk that are not MSM tv watchers and internet surfers to ask questions on his actions.

Words are words, 95% of what a politicians say is bull#.

Actions are what define a person.

Seems to me, a Christian WOULD sign a bill disallowing aborting a child that has survived outside the womb, let alone inside the womb.

BUT HE FOUGHT THE BILL!

Just another one of the ACTIONS that speak louder than WORDS!

Right from the FACT CHECK SITE-

As originally proposed, the 2003 state bill, SB 1082, sought to define the term "born-alive infant" as any infant, even one born as the result of an unsuccessful abortion, that shows vital signs separate from its mother. The bill would have established that infants thus defined were humans with legal rights. It never made it to the floor; it was voted down by the Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired.

Well IMAGINE THAT!

This is a question of semantics and ordering, not noun-adjective relationships. Oh wait, maybe it is....

If we wanted to be "technical", the only "things" the disclaimer could potentially be applied to are "Muslim" and "President" as those are the only two words listed which can be used as nouns; the other words are not things but rather describe "things": adjectives. However as "Muslim" is used as an adjective it is also not subject to the disclaimer thus resulting in the only possible interpretation that Obama is terrorist-coddling, warmongering, wall-street-loving, socialistic, godless and muslim and is not president.

The cover would be more appropriately written:

The making of a terrorist-coddling, warmongering, wall-street-loving, socialistic, godless, muslim* president.

*actually, he isn't any of these."

There. I made it more accurately reflect the issue. On the cover, any one of those adjectives could be used alone with "president" as could "president" be used alone.

Now, how would you interpret the disclaimer?

But they didn't and I think your thread might benefit from some understanding of basic English. It does not say what you seem to think it does. No conspiracy here. No grand revelation. Just you not getting what you read. Sorry if that does not seem as nice.

Just putting this out there, is going to get those older folk that are not MSM tv watchers and internet surfers to ask questions on his actions.

About this? What questions do you want them to ask? If he is not secretly not really president but magazines across the US are in on it?

Oh, this is about Christian bill signing now? It is amazing how many threads get started lately and the OP has to switch topics by the 5th page because the original (whatever) bashing premise fell apart when people, you know...looked at them.

Maybe that is a good topic for a thread. Sounds like you have a particular bone to grind. Who knows, we might even agree on that. We will not agree on the text on the cover that you began this thread by not reading correctly.
