Help With Hacked Facebook Page

Someone has duplicated my teenaged son's Facebook profile, creating an account to post very humiliating "status". He/she has sent "friend requests" to most of his existing "friends". The imposter even used my son's current photo, which everyone recognizes as legitimate.

We are not seeking legal retribution, but would like to identify the imposter, to perhaps reverse the humiliation by informing his/her parents, peers, church, etc. of the bahavior, teaching a lesson about taking pranks too far.

Does anyone know how to obtain any identifying info, from a Facebook account?

Could it be a prank from his friends? If your son's profile is private then his friends could of used whatever they have of him at their disposal on his profile to duplicate. Unless he someone saved his picture then just took the information down. Just my guesses. I would go with the prank.

I'm certain it is, however, the imposter is using very humiliating status posts. I'd rather not divulge the actual statements, but believe me it is above and beyond a typical high school prank. They are attempting to severely damage his reputation, which could dramatically affect a prestigious position he holds with potential for lucrative college scholarships.

ETA: I would provide the statements via U2U, if it would ease someone's conscience about helping us with identifying the culprit. I just don't want to post them publicly.

Humm! Well it's not hard to hack a facebook page. Maybe someone at his high school doesn't like him and has a bone to pick with him. Of course the person going to facebook is his way of getting back at yourson. Your son is a member of sport(s) teams? Try other team members or someone your son can recall being awkward to him.

Well if it could effect his college scholarships then take the offensive mode.

1. I'm sure if you turn his account into facebook they could delete his account an possibly stop from creating anymore accounts by blocking his IP address.

2. Go to the cops maybe they could track the impostor down.

3. Give it time maybe he will eventually get tired of playing that little game.

Have you contacted FB directly and asked for assistance? If so, are they obliging on their end? If not, why not? I thought there was a policy regarding this, but not sure...

Until it's sorted out, I'd suggest going on the offensive as well. If this can potentially damage his education and job opportunities than he must take some sort of action to minimize that possibility until the faked account is dumped.

So, he should delete all information on his (correct) FB account and put an alert in the status stating something to the effect of any information that is found regarding him is false due to hacking. He should set up a professional profile on a reputable site such as LinkedIn or something like that, specifically geared towards his education and professional accomplishments. In an interview (either for school or work) he should be able to present that profile in addition to his resume.

I don't know if you resolved this yet but if I recall correctly it is completely against face books terms and conditions to sign up under a false name (even though lots of people do)

Hi WTF. I've seen your thread a few times now and I'm just wondering if you've made any progress on this. One thing I did assume is that FB has rules regarding what you can post. Things such as swearing, dirty language, porn etc. would be forbinnen and if members insist on continuing, they would be banned. (?)

I know of a story about a friend of my cousin's who was banned from FB for posting questionable content. I don't know what he posted, just that he was banned for it.

Well, the imposter page has been reported to facebook, by several people, including me. However, the profile is still up.

Since it is impossible to find a simple contact form or email address, on the FB site, I've posted my displeasure on a few of their "blogs" and sent a message to the "facebook ads" section, asking if it is acceptable to post an ad informing users of facebook ignoring the reports of abuse.

I would like to take a moment to commend ATS staff for, apparently, accomplishing the impossible, with their automatic censoring of profanity! Facebook hasn't figured it out.
